The rivalry between Ateneo and La Salle has always been highly regarded as one of the most notable stories in the history of Philippine sports, but local sports enthusiasts did not expect that the rivalry would propel volleyball to become one of the most popular today. Now, some of the finest and most popular volleyball players in the country will once again rekindle the rivalry that has sparked the sport to new heights but this time they will do it for a noble cause.

Dubbed as the Battle of the Rivals, former and current volleyball players from two rival schools will face off in a five-set charity volleyball game which aims to raise funds for the scholarship programs of Ateneo de Manila University Foundation, De La Salle University Foundation, and Rebisco Foundation Inc. The two schools that will be led by Philippine volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado for Ateneo and Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo for La Salle promise local volleyball fans an intense rivalry featuring some of the best in the local volleyball scene.

Accompanying Kim and Mika to fight for DLSU are former UAAP Most Valuable Players Ara Galang and Abby Marano, former Finals MVPs Cha Cruz and Michelle Gumabao, Melissa Gohing and Cyd Demecillo. Meanwhile, Alyssa and Jia will get a boost from Ella de Jesus, Denisse Lazaro and Amy Ahomiro who have played a role in Ateneo's first women's volleyball title, as well as former collegiate standouts Maddie Madayag and Jho Maraguinot and Fab 5 player Fille Cainglet-Cayetano.

The "Battle of the Rivals" benefit game is set to be held on July 16, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and will be aired on ABS-CBN's S+A which is slated to be announced prior to the said event. Tickets are available at all SM ticket outlets and online via smtickets.com.
