Sony Wins Big at Asian Television Awards 2017

Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia has one big reason to celebrate aside from its 20th year anniversary, and it is after its big win at the recently concluded Asian Television Awards 2017 scooping the awards pool and taking home five awards including the highly coveted Cable and Satellite Network of the Year award.

AXN Asia, Sony's flagship channel in Asia and the region's leading English general entertainment powerhouse, was recognized as Cable and Satellite Channel of the Year while one of its hit original productions, "The Amazing Race Asia Season 5", won three highly-competitive awards including Best General Entertainment Program, Best Reality Program and Best Adaptation of an Existing Format.

SPE Networks Asia's Head of Content, Production and Marketing Virginia Lim stated that its big win in the Asian Television Awards is a testament of the network's creativity, passion and teamwork through the years as it continues its commitment to provide compelling content that would cater to the hearts and minds of viewers in the region. She also stated that AXN has a celebrated track record of creating blockbuster original productions that truly engage viewers across multiple platforms.

The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 debuted strong in October 2016 with a 51% audience share based on data from Kantar Media securing AXN's position as the number one general entertainment channel in its Thursday night timeslot and would eventually become the channel's top-rated original show for 2016. Hosted by TV personality Allan Wu, The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 followed the adventures of 11 teams of two travelling across Asia in a bid to win US$100,000 which was eventually won by Filipina beauty queens Parul Shah and Maggie Wilson.
