The National Golf Association of the Philippines and Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc. are gearing up for the 100th edition of the Solaire Philippine Open which is slated to be held at The Country Club, Sta. Rosa, Laguna on February 28-March 3, 2018. The centennial staging of Asia's oldest golf tournament will mark a new milestone with its biggest prize pool yet in the event's history.

Englishman Steve Lewton is slated to defend the Solaire Philippine Open crown in which he won last year against some of the finest pro golfers in the Philippines, Asia and the rest of the world with a whopping prize pool of US$600,000 on hand. The Solaire Philippine Open could open up a new milestone for 2018 as it hopes to crown a Filipino winner considering that the Philippines last won its own open back in 2015.

The organizers have already tapped Solaire Hotel and Casino as the main sponsor of the historic event since it has been a big part of some of the biggest events and historical milestones happened in our local shores in recent memories. For Philippine golfers, the latest edition of the opening leg in the Asian circuit may be a tough field but the familiarity of the course in Sta. Rosa will be their advantage. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the event has even gained the support from the MVP Sports Foundation.

I know it is rare for me to share stories and developments on Philippine golf, but the event quickly gained my interest and eventually I will be curious to know if a Filipino would win the 2018 Solaire Philippine Open. Let's just hope for the best and keep updated on it, OK?
