Metro Manila Film Festival

The 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival was an undeniable success beyond expectations with its eight official entries making their own impact in local cinemas since Christmas Day. In the end, Star Cinema's big blockbuster hits have earned the largest pieces of pie in the local box office.

MMFF executive committee member Noel Ferrer announced on social media that Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad and Ang Panday topped the local box-office sales throughout the duration of the film fest, and it is expected by no less than the ExeCom's chairman and National Artist Bienvenido Lumbers before the start of the festival. It is also revealed from another MMFF Executive Committee member that the earnings of the two top films make up 70% of the festival's overall sales which surpassed that of its previous editions and reached the Php1 billion sales mark as well.

It is also revealed from Star Cinema on social media that The Revenger Squad is now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time in domestic sales and it is yet to surpass the worldwide box-office gross of last year's record-holder The Super Parental Guardians. Meanwhile, the other 2017 MMFF entries have also done well in the local box office with twists and turns along the way and the influence of social media as a major boost factor, especially 2017 MMFF Best Picture Ang Larawan.
