One of the biggest Philippine film festivals championing homegrown talents is right around the corner and there are right and legitimate reasons why more FIlipino movie buffs should watch these flicks handpicked for the event and why local cinemas need not to screen Hollywood blockbusters and other foreign films for only one week.

The Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP), a project of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) as part of its continuing efforts to support the local movie industry, has the largest numbers of screenings for films nationwide with about 800 cinemas showcasing twelve top-rated locally-produced films covering several genres. Those who are willing to watch any of these films should not underestimate what they are all about.

Chosen through a panel of star-studded personalities and approved by the FDCP, movie buffs can enjoy any of the twelve official entries that are slated to suit their tastes. These include 100 Tula Para Kay Stella, Paglipay, Hamog, Pauwi Na, Star Na Si Van Damme Stallone, Triptico, Bar Boys, Patay Na Si Jesus, AWOL, Birdshot, Salvage and Ang Manananggal sa Unit 23B.

This lineup are assured to satisfy young and old movie lovers considering that most of them are originally made by our own indie filmmakers. Through the week-long showcase, the FDCP is hopeful that Filipinos can learn to experience quality and safe entertainment wherever they are and in whichever form they want to use and this is probably the most legitimate reason for the staging of the week-long all-Filipino film festival.

You see, film piracy has been one of the biggest issues plaguing the local movie industry where works of Filipino filmmakers are screened through illegal means. This is where Globe Telecom comes in with its #PlayItRIght advocacy which encourages consumers and mobile device users to enjoy and play their own entertainment choices from legitimate sources and provide more opportunities for filmmakers and film production firms to grow their business and reach a wider audience.

With that in mind, Filipino movie buffs will have the right reasons why the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is a legitimate event that we should be proud of.
