BoybandPH recently launched its newest single "Boyfriend"
which was initially seen and heard on traditional and social media platforms on
September 15, 2017 and it is assumed that it will be another hit for the
five-man pop group thanks to its rapidly growing fanbase. But who would have
thought that what started as a nationwide search for future Filipino superstars
would eventually turn out to be the most enduring among local pop groups today?
With that in mind, it is time for us to revisit where it all began.
In the holiday season of 2016, ABS-CBN launched Pinoy Boyband Superstar
which was the Philippine edition of the world-renouned boyband talent search La
Banda which was originally conceptualized by none other than Simon Cowell. The
show became a consistent hit in the nationwide ratings game since September
2016 and even on social media with the likes of Joao Constancia, Niel Murillo
and Tony Labrusca gaining strong following through their auditions.
From thousands who have auditioned from different parts of the country,
only five were chosen to become the members of the boy band group that we now
know of as BoybandPH - Joao Constancia, Niel Murillo, Ford Valencia, Russell
Reyes and Tristan Ramirez. They even sang what is tapped to be their first single "We Made It" at the end of the show's grand finale last December 10, 2016.
Nevertheless, BoybandPH began to make its own waves on social media
with millions of followers on Facebook and thousands on Twitter. Luckily, they
were able to launch their own first single "Unli" followed by their
first album which has sold more than 7,500 copies. While BoybandPH continues to
thrive on its success, one finalist from Pinoy Boyband Superstar would turn out
to be more successful in his own right than the boyband project itself as Tony
Labrusca would impress audiences and even Filipino netizens on his stint in the
top-rating primetime fantasy drama series La Luna Sangre.
