Headlining the network's lineup of captivating and refreshing small screen content featuring returning love teams and more compelling family-friendly stories is perhaps the most talked-about series that is already welcomed with mixed reaction and criticism from social media, and I'm talking about the action-fantasy drama "Bagani" which is loosely based on Filipino mythology. It marks the return of Filipino pop culture fans' favorite tandem LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil) to the small screens.
Now why is "Bagani" such a buzz on social media? Well, judging
by its plot, Filipino netizens would criticize the show for being a copycat of what
sets the standard for past, present and future Filipino fantasy shows which is
GMA Network's "Encantadia". In fact, even one of channel seven's creative
leads think that it is like cheating on examinations in school but it is a good
thing one writer from ABS-CBN fought back on Twitter with the same rant.
Despite the ongoing rants, former GMA News reporter Hadji Rieta thought
differently and stated on Twitter that "Bagani" is one to watch out
for in 2018 and that statement quickly gained my praise.
Anyway, also headlining ABS-CBN's own first blood for 2018 are the
sixth season of Pilipinas Got Talent to be hosted by Billy Crawford and Toni
Gonzaga with Angel Locsin, Philippine cinema's "Bad Boy" Robin
Padilla, Asia's phenomenal star Vice Ganda and former ABS-CBN president Freddie
M. Garcia as judges plus "No Ordinary Love" which marks the television
debut of the fast-rising on-screen AlEmpoy love team (Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy
Marquez) who are the main stars of the country's all-time highest-grossing
indie film "Kita Kita".
Also included to be shown on anyone's television sets soon are
"Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko" starring Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria, "The
Blood Sisters" where Erich Gonzales plays triplets separated by birth but
having their own troubled lives growing up, and "Playhouse" topbilled
by Angelica Panganiban and International Emmy Award best actor nominee Zanjoe
Marudo. Regardless of what you think, these shows are satisfying and delightful
enough for any Filipino viewer to enjoy wherever he or she may be at the start
of the new year.
