If you have seen the overwhelming positive feedback from Filipino
nerizens who have been in cinemas for the past week, then they have certainly
enjoyed watching Warner Bros. Pictures' new romantic comedy flick Crazy Rich
Asians. And if you have learned about its strong traction in the local box office,
then you would be impressed at how Filipino movie buffs' love for the movie was
shared the same way it did in North America.
In just seven days, Crazy Rich Asians made an astounding Php110 million
gross in the Philippine box office according to Warner Bros. Pictures
Philippines. Prior to that astoundment, the movie based on the novel by Kevin
Leod became the highest-grossing foreign romantic comedy film of all time in
the Philippines and overtaken The Meg for the highest-grossing opening weekend
for a WB film in 2018. The movie's Filipino actors Nico Santos and queen of all
media Kris Aquino have already expressed their appreciation on social media and
thanked their fellow Filipinos for watching the movie.
On the other hand, Viva Films' own romantic comedy film Miss Granny is
not one to be left out as it also made a strong standing on its own in local
cinemas. The Philippine adaptation of the South Korean blockbuster hit starring
Sarah Geronimo, James Reid, Xian Lim and Nova Villa has grossed Php85 million in
just one week. Prior to that interesting news, the movie recorded its consistently
highest gross in the local box office earning Php21 million on August 26 and
Php20 million the next day. I guess we can credit the positive feedback and
reception for the success of Miss Granny with many praising Sarah Geronimo's
superb acting as well as the movie itself.
With the strong success of Crazy Rich Asians and Miss Granny in
Philippine cinemas, how will Star Cinema's The Hows Of Us fare well and top
that? Well, it actually did if you go to the cinemas on the very first day of its
showing. In fact, the movie has amazingly grossed Php35.94 million across more
than 200 cinemas nationwide in just 24 hours and now holds the record of having
the highest-grossing opening for a Kathryn Bernardo-Daniel Padilla movie. This
just makes me a bit curious on how Filipino movies like these were able to become
as compelling as those from other countries.
