From more than 5,000 entries coming from aspiring Filipino songwriters
situated in different parts of the country and even other countries, only ten
were chosen as the official finalists of ABS-CBN and Star Music's Himig Handog
2018: Love Songs and Love Stories and are vying for the Best Song award in the
largest and most prestigious songwriting competition in the Philippines.
As a Himig Handog tradition, these original compositions will be
interpreted by some of the finest and freshest OPM performers today. Without
further ado, here are the official Himig Handog 2018 finalists:
* "Dalawang Pag-Ibig Niya", written by Bernard Reforsado of Albay
and sung by Krystal Brimner and Sheena Belarmino featuring MNL48
* "Hati Na Lang Tayo Sa Kanya", written by Joseph Santiago of
Quezon City and sung by Eumee
* "Kababata", written by John Michael Edixon of Parañaque City
and sung by Kyla with Kritiko
* "Mas Mabuti Pa", written by Mhonver Lopez and Joanna
Concepcion of Laguna and sung by Tawag Ng Tanghalan Year 2 grand champion
Janine Berdin
* "Para Sa Tabi", written by Robert William Pereña of Dubai, UAE
and sung by BoybandPH
* "Sa Mga Bituin Na Lang Ibubulong", written by Kyle Raphael
Borbon of Davao and sung by JM De Guzman
* "Sugarol", written by Jan Sabili of Muntinlupa City and
sung by Maris Racal
* "Tinatapos Ko Na", written by Sarah Jane Gandia of USA and
sung by Jona
* "Wakasan", written by Philip Arvin Jarilla of Antipolo City
and sung by Agsunta
* "Wala Kang Alam", written by Martin John Arellano of Manila
and Mel Magno of Pampanga and sung by Sam Mangubat
The competition is already underway and you should expect and
anticipate every Himig Handog performance on ASAP every Sunday on ABS-CBN. The
winners will be officially announced on November 11, 2018 where the composer of
the Best Song will receive a cash prize of Php1 million while Php500,000, Php200,000,
Php150,000 and Php100,000 await those who wrote the second, third, fourth and
fifth best song respectively.
Now on its 9th year which initially began from 2000 to 2003 and was brought
back after a decade, Himig Handog continues to discover new and fresh local
artists and support the OPM (Original Philippine Music) industry through
finding new songs that are proudly Filipino made. "Titibo-Tibo",
which was composed by Libertine Amistoso and sung by Moira dela Torre, was
hailed as the Best Song of last year's Himig Handog and has quickly captured
the hearts of many Filipinos.
