It was in late 2017 when Filipino MMA sensation Eduard Folayang lost the ONE Lightweight World Championship to Singapore's Martin Nguyen in a fair and gruelling fight leading to a decision win for the ladder. Now, the face of mixed martial arts in the Philippines from Team Lakay is set his sights on recapturing the title that has cemented his own career and there is no better way to do that than to stage it in front of what would probably be a massive hometown crowd.

ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chiatri Sityodtong announced on social media that a new ONE lightweight world champion will be crowned in a blockbuster showdown after Nguyen forcibly relinquished the title due to injury and it will happen at the promotion's final Manila event for 2018 dubbed as Conquest of Champions and it will be between Folayang and Singapore-based knockout star Amir Khan which is slated the biggest fight of their careers.

While Folayang is out to redefine his legacy as a Philippine MMA phenomenon through his second championship reign, Evolve MMA's Khan is set to cement his own journey as an Asian mixed martial arts superstar by becoming Singapore's first homegrown male world champion. He recently earned his second submission victory over Team Lakay's Honorio Banario last September and the showdown will be the 23-year old's first opportunity at a world title. On the other hand, Folayang is coming off back-to-back unanimous decision victories over a pair of tough and dangerous undefeated Russian grapplers.

The blockbuster showdown between Eduard Folayang and Amir Khan for the vacant ONE lightweight world championship will take place on the 23rd of November at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Whoever wins in the bout will take on former lightweight world champion Shinya Aoki who recently put his opponent Ev Ting to sleep in 57 seconds of the very first round earning a submission victory at the recently concluded ONE Championship: Conquest of Heroes event last October 6, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.
