Viva Films' Ulan is currently showing in more than 100 cinemas in the Philippines and slated to follow the unprecedented success of Black Sheep's romantic drama flick Alone Together which has earned Php370 million worldwide. Though it is one of the most highly-anticipated movies to grace 2019, it gained a slow start in the local box-office garnering between Php3 and 4 million on its first day but is looking to up the ante in the weekend. However, there is something you didn't know about the movie that surprised me a lot and that would happen to be the fact that there is a common bond between the film and the Philippines' premiere online on-demand entertainment service HOOQ.

Upon learning from various reliable sources, it just so happens that Ulan is HOOQ's first original movie in the Philippines considering that it has partnered with one of the country's most renouned and respected content production companies. I also learned that HOOQ's first foray into Filipino originals is definitely the highlight of the service's fourth year anniversary which makes a lot of sense since it is the first among the HOOQ Originals hailing from our local shores. And this is just the beginning as HOOQ is looking forward to release more original Filipino productions with its partners featuring some of the most promising and talented actors, scriptwriters and directors.

Starring Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino and directed by Irene Villamor, Ulan is a unique and mysterious love story between Maya, a woman who is fascinated with rain and has the ability to see and interact with mythical creatures called tikbalang, and Peter, a volunteer for a non-government organization who wants to unearth the mysteries behind Maya's fascination with rain. For an extensive look at its intriguing story between the two, watch the official trailer below.

Ulan happens to be the fourth original Filipino film from Villamor who has been making waves in the Philippine film industry for her unique style of storytelling. Her vision of an unconventional love story with a supernatural twist has the makings of a future classic. Prior to Ulan, Villamor also directed Camp Sawi, Meet Me In St. Gallen and Sid and Aya: Not A Love Story which are available on HOOQ for online and offline viewing. Also included in HOOQ's extensive library of Filipino content are Nadine Lustre hits such as Diary ng Panget, On The Wings of Love, This Time, and Never Not Love You among others.
