Captain Marvel, the most recent movie from Marvel Studios that
introduced Carol Dangers to a vast cinematic universe of the world's finest and
greatest superheroes, is soaring high further towards Philippine cinemas after
being regarded as the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time in the
Philippines. On the other hand, Star Cinema's Eerie is surprisingly set to
follow the success of Black Sheep's Alone Together in the local box office for
2019 after gaining steadily strong traction in its first week.
Based on data released by Walt Disney Pictures Philippines, Captain
Marvel has made over Php630 million since its release in more than 230 cinemas
nationwide on March 6th which happened to be two days before the celebration of
International Women's Day. The movie has broken numerous records in the
Philippine box-office including the biggest opening day for 2019, the biggest opening
day for an origins movie and the highest female superhero opening day. Most of
all, it now holds the record for the highest first Marvel Cinematic Universe
stand alone character opening weekend in the country beating the likes of
previous superhero origins movie including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America: The
First Avenger and Black Panther in the process.

Meanwhile, the horrifying thriller Eerie is the second Filipino movie
to reach the Php100 million local box-office sales mark after steadily gaining
strong prominence in more than a week or so. This was announced by no less than
Star Cinema on its official social media accounts. Aside from being shown in Philippine
cinemas, Eerie can also be seen in hundreds of cinemas across various parts of
Southeast Asia including Singapore and Malaysia where it also gained positive
reception. In the midst of impending changes that are slated to change the landscape
of Philippine cinema, it is good to know that there are the likes of Eerie
which is faring well amidst competition from Hollywood blockbuster flicks.
Starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel is set in the 90s
which features already familiar characters from the MCU such as Nick Fury and
Phil Coulson and centers around women empowerment. She will be joining the Avengers
who have survived Thanos' purge in the highly-anticipated final chapter of the
Infinity Saga, Avengers: EndGame, to be shown in Philippine cinemas on April
24th. Starring Bea Alonzo and Charo Santos-Concio and directed by Mikhail Red,
Eerie is about a guidance counselor who is willing to solve a case involving
the murder of one of the Catholic school's students only to be hindered by its
head nun and principal.
