GMA Regional TV's Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels continues to reach out to more Filipinos in the regions, extending help to thousands of families in Northern and Central Luzon; Central and Eastern Visayas; Western Visayas; and Northern, Central and Southern Mindanao. A modified version of Kapuso Barangayan, the civic initiative of the regional arm of the Philippines' largest broadcasting network is halfway through its second leg.
As more cities and provinces across the country are under various community quarantine periods due to the continuing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels was conceptualized to provide Filipinos with essential items that they urgently need such as breakfast items, grocery packs, hygiene kits and vitamins. From June to the first week of October, a total of 1,040 families from nine barangays in North Central Luzon were given food and grocery packs by GMA RTV's North Central Luzon team while the Western Visayas team visited fourteen barangays across the region from the last week of May to the first week of October, benefitting 1,660 families.
In Cebu, ten barangays were provided with food packs and fresh locally-produced vegetables since June, with the GMA RTV Central and Western Visayas team benefitting 1,130 families. From July to September, GMA RTV Southern Mindanao was able to help 1,180 families in nine barangays in Davao. The Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels went all the way to Cagayan De Oro and Misamis Oriental where almost 600 families from five barangays have received food packs from GMA RTV North and Central Mindanao. Each pack of "Kapuso Barangayan On Wheels" included notes with messages of encouragement from the hosts and anchors of GMA Regional TV's newscasts and morning programs to help uplift the beneficiary family's spirits.
