Bren eSports is now considered the best Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) team in the world after conquering the MLBB M2 World Championships held in Singapore last January 24, 2021 (Sunday) in a come-from-behind fashion following its epic survival against the Burmese Ghouls, 4-3, in the grand finals. With the win and the title, the multiple-time Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL-PH) and The Nationals MLBB champions have literally avenged their loss over the Myanmar-based squad that relegated them to the lower bracket in a stunning sweep and eventually reigned supreme in the prestigious mobile gaming tourney that brought in teams from eight other countries.
Dropping the first two games, the Ghouls staged a monumental comeback by clinching the next three matches that pushed Bren eSports to the brink of a silver-medal finish. Bren, however, regained its bearings in Game 6 to force a rubber match with KarlTzy starred with 9 kills and 11 assists against one death with Brody while Pheww tallied 8 kills and 8 assists against 5 deaths with Lunox. In the penultimate final game of the tournament, KarlTzy had a field day getting his hands on his comfort hero Claude and scoring 10 kills and six assists against only one death. Bren eSports literally wrapped up the game in only 14 minutes with Kid (Lunox) unable to defend the turret base of the MPL Myanmar champions against KarlTzy, Pheww (Luo Yi), Ribo (Harith) and Rusty (Chou).
Prior to the Grand Finals, Bren eSports has defied expectations throughout M2 since being dropped in the Lower Bracket with wins over Malaysia's Todak in the bracket quarterfinals, Indonesia's Alter Ego in the bracket semifinals and hot favorite RRQ Hoshi in the bracket finals. On the other hand, another Philippine eSports team Smart Omega started out strong with an undefeated streak on Day 1 but, like Bren eSports, was relegated to the Lower Bracket after losing to RRQ Hoshi in the playoffs. Its campaign in the MLBB M2 World Championship came to a halt following its defeat over Alter Ego in the bracket quarterfinals. EVOS Legends, the first MLBB M2 World Championship winners, was absent from this year's festivities.
Helping reclaimed the Philippines as the strongest country when it comes to MLBB eSports, Bren eSports took home the grand cash prize of US$140,000 and was awarded its very own M2-themed skin on an MLBB hero of the team's choice while the Grand Finals MVP is being awarded to KarlTzy. These were being given to them during the awarding ceremony by Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association's Patron Mr. Melvin Yong and Singapore Tourism Board Chief Executive Mr. Keith Tan. Organized by MLBB developer MOONTON in collaboration with SCOGA and supported by the STB and IMDA, the Grand Finals served as a fitting finale for the first global offline eSports event to be held in Southeast Asia with a staggering 3.08 million peak concurrent global online viewers according to the eSports Charts analytics platform and set one of the many new MLBB eSports viewership records.
