The newest set of world-class Filipino athletes and sports personalities to be enshrined into the Philippine Sports Hall Of Fame (PSHOF) have been officially announced after careful and compelling deliberations by the review and selection committees led by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez and Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC) president Bambol Tolentino. Headlining the list of this year's newest additions are Philippine basketball's living legend Robert Jaworski, the late great Philippine football legend Paulino Alcantara, and Southeast Asia's long jump queen in the 80s Elma Muros-Posadas.
Having won multiple championships in the collegiate, professional and national ranks, Jaworski is known for embodying Ginebra San Miguel's "never say die" attitude and philosophy which eventually becomes the mantra of one of the top teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) until today. On the other hand, Alcantara was a part of the Philippine team that thrashed Japan, 17-2, in the 1917 Far Eastern Championship Games which remains the country's biggest win in the international football circuit. He was also one of FC Barcelona's first superstars, leading the current La Liga Santander powerhouse to six Copa Del Rey titles during the 1910s and 1920s while also becoming the club's youngest scorer at age 15. Posadas won eight gold medals in long jump and seven in athletics in the Southeast Asian Games throughout the 80s.
Rounding off the list of PSHOF's newest inductees are 13-time SEA Games gold medalist in swimming Eric Buhain, Olympic bronze medalists in boxing Rodolfo Serrantes and Roel Velasco, Filipino Olympians Rogelio Onofre (athletics) and Gertrudes Lozada (swimming), champion bowler Arianne Cerdena, and champion diver/basketball player/coach Dionisio Calvo. Each enshrinee will take home Php200,000 each and a trophy. Details for the enshrinement ceremony as well as when it will be held are slated to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
