After an explosive series of one-on-one exhibition matches, the Collegiate Center for eSports (CCE) is all set to stage the CCE Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) 5-on-5 Varsity Cup (MVC). Slated to be held on November 10-21, 2021, the event will serve as the main course of CCE's introduction as the newest collegiate eSports league in the Philippines with student-athletes from ten colleges and universities out to showcase their talent and prowess in one of the most popular eSports titles in the country today and the mobile gaming and eSports scene as well. The event is sponsored by Rebel Sports, Bio-Agrownica and Alaxan FR and will be streamed live exclusively on CALM Network.
Eager to rediscover their chemistry from a long collegiate action hiatus, reigning NCAA seniors’ basketball champions Letran will parade a potent line-up bannered by Finals MVP Fran Yu, with Jeo Ambohot, Allen Mina, King Caralipio, and Shan Bautista providing support. Standing on their way, as always, is old rival San Beda led by Damie Cuntapay, Yukien Andrada, Justine Sanchez, Tony Ynot, and Gabriel Cometa, with the two proud schools rekindling their rivalry in the virtual arena through CCE. Lorenzo Navarro, Alvin Baetiong, Carlo Abadeza, Yancy Remulla, and Shawn Umali comprise Lyceum; Carlo Lim, Baron Gabuyan, Ryan Daculan, Reiven Valera, Georgie Gauani, and Leonard Jaboli banner College of St. Benilde; while Arellano University will have Kai Oliva, Lars Sunga, Diego Ilao, Marlon Espiritu, and Jifford Cahigas.
Mapua fields Warren Bonifacio, Joaqui Garcia, Jasper Salenga, Adrian Nocum and Jomer Mercado with Angelo Parinas as alternate; Emilio Aguinaldo College troops Kyle Carlos, Jomar Amador, Ralph Vincent Robin, Adrian De Guzman and Christian Angelo Cabuhat while JL Delos Santos, Jan Marc Abaoag, Hosea Mananquil, Dustin Aguado, and Donvic Aguado lead Jose Rizal University. San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ Michael Are, who finished runner-up in the 1v1, is in for redemption along with teammates Kenneth Villapando, JM Calma, Camillus Altamirano, and Rafael Are. But all eyes will be on 1v1 champion Jasper Cuevas, who is out to complete a twin-title for the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA along with his teammates Kyle Cuevas, Lean Martel, Shawn Orgo, and Rey Joey Barcuma.
A regular season-by-season calendar featuring eSports athletes and select students from their respective schools is already in the works following CCE's successful introduction to the Philippine eSports scene. Aside from these events, CCE will also provide opportunities for budding eSports players to earn scholarships through representing their school colors in future competitions. Championing a cause for academic and sporting excellence through esports, CCE will allocate the prizes and rewards for its breakthrough tourney to scholarship purposes for the aspiring esports players which will have their turn in the official CCE season. “That’s the goal, providing scholarships for players. CCE envisions to build that bridge for the Filipino dreamers in this modern age,” said CCE spokesperson Waiyip Chong.
