The Asia Pacific University Sports Union (APUSU) and its affiliate associate member, the Asian University Basketball Federation (AUBF), are set to stage the inaugural Asia Pacific University 3x3 Basketball League (APU3X3BL) which is slated to take place on May 17-20, 2022 inside the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) gymnasium situated nearby the Manila City Hall in cooperation with the Samahang Basketball Ng Pilipinas (SBP) in terms of the tournament's technical aspects.
Prior to the regional collegiate tilt, there will be a qualifying tournament that can determine which teams will qualify for the Asia Pacific University 3x3 Basketball League. Scheduled to be held on February 2022, the APU3x3BL Philippine Qualifiers will be handled by National Basketball League (NBL) - Philippines Commissioner Leonardo Andres. Only colleges and universities registered with the FESSAP will be invited to take part and participate in the said qualifiers and are allowed to field in no more than two squads of four student-athletes. Foreign delegations will not be charged a participation fee and the APU3X3BL Organizing Committee will handle the arrangements for their pickup arrival and departure. However, foreign representatives should take care of their hotel accommodations within the vicinity of the TUP area.
The APU3X3BL Organizing Committee is headed by TUP President and FESSAP Board of Trustees member Dr. Jesus Rodrigo F. Torres as Chairman and FESSAP Executive Vice President Prof. Robert Milton A. Calo. FESSAP Board of Trustees member and Executive Assistant for State University Affairs Allan Soria has been appointed by the APU3X3BL Organizing Committee as the League Director who will supervise and oversee tournament operations and establish the tournament format. The Philippines' hosting of the inaugural APU3X3BL tournament is given full and undaunting support from FESSAP President Edwin C. Fabro and Chairman Alvin Tan Lian who is also the APUSU President Emeritus.
Once the details of the first APU3X3BL tournament are finalized with host TUP-Manila, Malaysian-based APUSU President Mustaza Ahmad will issue his stamp of approval which serves literally as a "green light" for the event to commence. Of course, top executives from the APUSU as well as the president of the Asian University Basketball Federation will be invited to grace the league's opening ceremonies.
