GMA Network, the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines, further demonstrates the power of uniting Filipinos in love and hope as it keeps its stronghold in terms of nationwide viewership and reach for full year 2021. Further solidifying this dominance – and making it a double victory for the Kapuso Network – was GTV already being the second most-watched channel in the latter part of the year.
Based on Nielsen Phils. TV Audience Measurement’s Total Philippines data for full year 2021 (from January 1 to December 31), GMA registered a net reach of 95.7 percent with an estimated 83 million TV viewers nationwide. GMA was the most watched channel in Total Philippines for the said period with 46 percent people audience share. Per major area, GMA’s net reach was 95.6 percent or 54.4 million viewers in Total Luzon; 96.4 percent (16.4 million viewers) in Total Visayas; and 94.9 percent (12 million viewers) in Total Mindanao. Across dayparts in the said areas, the Kapuso Network recorded an average of 48.4 percent total day people audience share in Total Luzon, while it posted 41.6 percent in Total Visayas, and 41.3 percent in Total Mindanao for 2021. GMA has also maintained its dominance in key regional cities. Metro Cities TV Audience Measurement (MCTAM) 2021 data also cited that GMA reached 99.3 percent or an estimated 352,000 viewers in Metro Dagupan; 95.2 percent (2.3 million viewers) in Metro Cebu; and 98 percent (2.1 million viewers) in Metro Davao.
The Kapuso Network’s second free-to-air channel GTV is likewise keeping it good in terms of ratings as it claimed its spot as the second most-watched station in the country next to flagship station GMA. From November 1 to December 31, 2021, GTV recorded 11.6 percent people audience share in Total Philippines, which surpassed TV5, its closest competitor, with 10.4 percent. GTV’s ratings success was also bolstered by the Network’s non-stop efforts to expand GTV’s reach and clarity of reception in areas outside of Mega Manila. It recently commissioned the upgraded analog TV station in Zamboanga which covers Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur as well as the cities of Lamitan and Isabela, as well as other municipalities in Basilan. Since GTV’s launch in February 2021, the Network has already commissioned six analog TV station upgrades in different parts of the country – Tandang Sora in Manila, Mt. Sto. Tomas in Benguet, Mt. Banoy in Batangas, Naga in Camarines Sur, Legazpi in Albay, and General Santos City in Mindanao. On the other hand, GMA Network's digital channels Heart Of Asia and I Heart Movies have also made waves in the local television scene and were eventually among the top ten most watched channels in the Philippines for 2021 based on data from Nielsen Philippines.
The top GMA programs for 2021 were First Yaya, Encantadia, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Centerstage, Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday, 24 Oras, I Can See You, Agimat ng Agila, and Love of My Life. Select GMA programs were also simulcast on GTV as well as on Heart of Asia. And for 2022, GMA Network rings in the New Year strong as it unveiled its jam-packed program offerings slated to launch this year. Viewers were treated to the first string of world-class content this January beginning with new primetime series “I Can See You: AlterNate" starring no less than Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes, afternoon drama “Little Princess” with Jo Berry taking the title role, and the return of “Prima Donnas” Jillian Ward, Althea Ablan, and Sofia Pablo. Viewers in the province of Batangas and CALABARZON should also look forward to the opening of GMA Regional TV (RTV) Batangas Station and the launch of GMA RTV Balitang Southern Tagalog on February 2022.
Viewers here and abroad are surely up for another exciting year as GMA Network continues to enjoin Filipinos to love and hope together. Watch out for more quality TV content brought by GMA, GTV, as well as digital channels Heart of Asia, Hallypop, I Heart Movies, and DepEd TV on digital TV receivers GMA Affordabox and GMA Now. GMA programs also air abroad via international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV. For more updates about the Kapuso Network, visit www.gmanetwork.com.
