On The Radar: The Walt Disney Company Joins Destination Imagination In Support Of The Next Generation Of Diverse Storytellers And Innovators

The Walt Disney Company is collaborating with a global, non-profit organization, Destination Imagination, to expand opportunities in the Asia Pacific region for underrepresented students including young women and girls, to explore future careers as Storytellers and Innovators in Asia’s creative industries. In a first for the region, Destination Imagination will be rolling out the “Heroic Innovators Challenge”, giving students across the Asia Pacific access to online resources in which they can gain foundational skills in Science, Technology, and Storytelling.

After completing an online program on Destination Imagination’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Learning Academy, students between the ages of 16–24 years old will be invited to form teams to address a real-world challenge and present their solution using their new-found STEM skills and Creative Storytelling. The Challenge is open to students in high schools and universities across the Asia Pacific including Greater China, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Korea. Disney will work with Destination Imagination to help students gain skills that may aid future careers in media and entertainment. In addition, Disney guest speakers will introduce students to the breadth of careers open to them in Asia’s creative industry.

WIKO To Open First Flagship Store In PH Next Year, 100 Kiosks Nationwide Before End Of 2022

French smartphone brand WIKO it’s set to open a flagship store next year, and 100 kiosks nationwide before 2022 ends, all part of its expansion plans in the Philippines. Following its consumer launch last September, WIKO has been broadening its business presence in the country. It recently opened 10 new kiosks in different locations such as SM Manila, SM Bacoor, Ayala Centrio Mall CDO, and more.

Customers can expect more kiosks to open this year as the brand targets to open 100 kiosks nationwide before 2022 ends. The first WIKO flagship store for Q1 2023 is also in the pipeline. All WIKO kiosks offer personal phone setups that customers can check out. They can also sit while transferring data from their old phone to the new one. The kiosks also have free charging stations for any phone brand. Alongside the kiosks and stores, the brand opened various Service Centers. Customers can simply drop off and pick up their devices at a nearby WIKO kiosk, and the dealer will send them to a Citylight Service Center for repairs.

Launched in 2011, WIKO aims to bring French and fresh aesthetics, and innovation with their smartphones. The brand entered the Philippine market in 2022 with its signature models, WIKO T50 and WIKO T10. It recently launched new smartphones, the WIKO 10 and WIKO T10+, and the WIKO Buds 10. WIKO also signed P-pop group G22 as its celebrity ambassadors in the country. The four-piece is known for their hit singles “BANG", “Babalik” and “Defy". They also started the “WIKO Beat” TikTok challenge where fans can show off their moves with the hashtag #WeCoolWithWIKO.

Filipino girl group 4th Impact recently wowed the Korean audience with their impactful performance at the 2022 Asia Song Festival last October 14, 2022. Drawing praises for showcasing their vocal chops and versatility, the award-winning sister act put their deft spin on BTS’ global smash “Dynamite,” while dishing out their own originals “Tapat Sa’yo” and “Here We Go” like pros.

Falcon eSports Soars To The Peak In M4 World Championships: Myanmar Qualifiers

Falcon eSports soared to the highest spot after bagging the championship title in M4 World Championship: Myanmar Qualifiers. The team put Fenix eSports to its resting nest and took home the crown and the lion’s share of the prize pool worth US$10,000. In a best-of-five (BO5) series, Falcon eSports clenched its sharp talons on Fenix eSports during their championship match that took place on the night of October 2, 2022. Strutting off with a 3-1 lead, the Burmese quintet cemented their win for the upcoming M4 World Championship that will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in January 2023.

Meanwhile, Galacticos Rising settled in third place after sweeping the best-of-five series against 9K eSports x Miracle Gaming who took the fourth spot. Falcon eSports was also Myanmar’s representative at the previous MLBB Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) 2022 and finished in fourth place. The team is headed by Filipino coach Dale Vitug. “This victory proves that Falcon eSports can represent Myanmar’s strength in MLBB eSports. We are hopeful that they can conquer the world stage and strive for higher glory,” stated MOONTON Games eSports Ecosystem Lead Ray Ng.

A total of 256 teams signed up for the Myanmar Qualifiers to represent the country. The qualifier stage took place from September 10-15, 2022. Group stage followed from October 1-2, 2022, wherein both Falcon eSports and Fenix eSports led Groups A and B, respectively. M4 World Championship: Myanmar Qualifier also broke the domestic tournament peak concurrent views (PCU) data after reaching up to 200,000 views on YouTube and Facebook during the group stage (viewership details pending from eSports Chart’s update).

PSC All Set For 8th Women's Martial Arts Festival On November

The Philippine Sports Commission’s preparations are in full swing for the 8th edition of the PSC Women’s Martial Arts Festival as it returns to its physical competitions at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and Philsports Complex in Pasig slated to be held on November 12 -17, 2022.

PSC commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo expressed her enthusiasm for the return of the competitions. “It is my pride and joy to meet and see our women and girls in martial arts showcase their prowess and discover young talents, some of whom may prove to be our next gold medalists,” Coo said. “Women in sports have been very successful, since last year’s Olympic gold to this year’s numerous victories in football and karateka Junna Tsukii’s win in The World Games. This shows the need to continue our support and the programs that had been in place to nurture and further open the opportunity and equality in sports.” Commissioner Coo added.

Over 1,000 participants are expected to compete in the women’s martial arts festival which will cater 9 regular sports namely Pencak Silat, Wrestling, Sambo, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Kurash, and 2 demonstration sports including Arnis and Judo will be contested for the six-day sportsfest.
