Mediaquest Holdings Inc. led by its chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) and president Jane J. Basas continues to strengthen the reach of its free-to-air broadcast television station TV5 through the continuous upgrading of its transmission towers across different parts of the country that is poised to boost the network's entertainment, news and sports offerings made possible via consistently strong partnerships with various content providers including ABS-CBN Entertainment, Viva Entertainment, Cignal Entertainment and TVJ Productions Inc., a new production company set up by the iconic entertainment trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon.
Earlier in June, it fired up new transmission towers in Kalibo, Aklan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. TV5 also noted improvements in coverage in Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Guimaras. The cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos saw better coverage, too. It also improved signal quality in Quezon City; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Capas, Tarlac; Naga City, Camarines Sur; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; and parts of Batangas province. These expansion efforts are poised to reach at least 18 million individuals in more than 4.5 million Filipino households by August, more particularly those living in areas where viewers struggle to watch the Kapatid Network's wide slate of program offerings. “Our goal is to reach more viewers and provide the best content on all platforms. Because of these continuing enhancements, more families will be able to enjoy the premium viewing experience that we offer on TV5,” said TV5 President and CEO Guido Zaballero.
Based on the May 2023 data from Nielsen Media Research Philippines, TV5 gained an overall viewership rating of 10.4%, higher than GMA Network's second free-to-air channel GTV (8.5%) and A2Z (7.0%), and became the second highest-rating station in weekday primetime. Contributing to the Kapatid network's strong ratings and momentum in weekday primetime is the recent strengthening of its flagship primetime news program Frontline Pilipinas, including the addition of sports analyst Mikee Reyes and KaladKaren to its slate of anchors, and ABS-CBN's primetime programs currently headlined by FPJ's Batang Quiapo, The Iron Heart and Dirty Linen. Thanks to its strong programming slate, TV5 has managed to bring its losses towards a downward trend and looks to fulfill its premise of breaking even in 2024. As MVP would say in a recent press briefing, "There's always a miracle."
More Filipino viewers should look forward to the continuous offerings of the Kapatid network including the highly-anticipated return of TVJ and the 'Legit Dabarkads' on July 1st and upcoming daytime dramas comprising of the television adaptation of Viva Films' "Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan Ang Nakaraan" and ABS-CBN Entertainment's "Nag-Aapoy Na Damdamin" and "Pira-Pirasong Paraiso" among others. With these new program offerings and continuous expansion efforts, it is without doubt that 2023 will be the year when TV5 shakes up Philippine television and the local entertainment scene to a whole new level that is yet to be reached by any other broadcast television network in the country.
