Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) strengthens its Early Childhood Development (ECD) advocacy by providing strong, research-based educational videos to schools and helping fund a global study on parenting and early childhood to boost the morale of parents, teachers, and childcare workers across Asia. KCFI has been steadfast in its efforts to provide strong guidance on ECD through the provision of Portable Media Libraries to different schools and communities nationwide.

Teachers, parents, and caregivers can learn at home from Knowledge Channel educational video lessons such as “Heroes of Zero", “ILY1000: Batang #Laking1000” and “TalkED: Early Childhood Series with Bianca Gonzalez" which are all available on Knowledge Channel’s Facebook and Youtube pages, iWantTFC, Kapamilya Channel, A2Z and BEAM TV. "We know how important it is to invest in our children, not just for their own personal success but for the success of the nation. We have launched various shows and conducted different initiatives for ECD nationwide,” said KCFI president and executive director Rina Lopez-Bautista. KCFI recently supported an ECD research project led by the Asia Philanthropy Circle which discussed the barriers to the proper implementation of ECD policies and programs.

This groundbreaking study highlighted the alarming lack of information and resources for early childhood development and education, particularly in the rural region. The study shed light on the rise of malnutrition and stunting which may be due to lack of information on proper nutrition and child health. It is also the first of its kind and the most comprehensive mapping to date of parenting and early childhood programs across Asia with a particular focus on China, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. As KCFI continues to advance its ECD advocacy, it is actively seeking partnerships with companies, organizations, and Child Development Centers that share the goal of empowering young Filipino learners to become changemakers and positively transform society.

The Manila International Dance Festival (MIDFest) 2023 will officially take its opening salvo on September 8, 2023 at the historical grounds of Rizal Park, Manila and will run for three days. This is a collaborative project with Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto in its continuing efforts to promote and enhance the promotion of culture and the arts in line with its belief in sustaining peace and respect for diversity. Vice Mayor Yul Servo stresses that “it has always been my belief that the creative arts can take us to a better understanding of our differences and can forge unity to our goals. It’s empowering to all and especially to the treasures of our heritage.”

The festival in its greater theme for 2023 encapsulates “Celebrating, Diversity, Peace, and Unity Through Dance and Music". “It is our aim at MIDF or MIDFest 2023 to use the dance art form in the promotion of peace and unity among diverse communities while strengthening our resolve to continue propagating our cultural dances in our modern world,” enthuses MIDFest Festival Director Archie Dema-ala. It will be participated by renowned 21 cultural dance groups from The Philippines and 5 countries joining the festival and imparting their very own cultural heritage like indonesia, India, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand. These groups will be showcasing their performances across partner malls and universities in Manila throughout the festival with the main highlights to be staged at the historical and prominent Rizal Park and Fort Santiago in Intramuros.

Dema-ala was surprised on the positive response of the participants when the call was echoed for the MIDFest 2023. “I was so thrilled when unexpectedly local participants started to flock in to register their groups and as well to the participaring countries by sending their own groups. This alone makes my heart full as it shows an unfolding of an ultimate dream to have an exchange of culture and heritage among locals and with our international counterparts, thus reminding everyone to always treasure our traditions and culture.” It is in the festival’s aim in its inaugural to focus in the City of Manila being the seat of power where MalacaƱang Palace is located as well as Intramuros, a walled city during colonial times in the heart of the Old Manila and the Fort Santiago, a storied citadel and former military prison. (Image Source: Maharlika TV/GCash)

GCash, the Philippines’ #1 financial super app, waives the QRPH transaction fees or merchant discount rates (MDRs) for micro-merchants who use the scan-to-pay service until the end of 2023. In addition to this, micro-merchants have access to an increased wallet limit of up to Php500,000 per month. Moreover, the 1.5% transaction fee is waived up to Php100,000 in gross sales. E-wallets and other payment platforms charge fees as high as 2% for the use of their cashless transaction services such as QR-based and card payments.

“For GCash, making this service free means micro-entrepreneurs can earn a little extra for their families through safe cashless transactions. We are committed to working with our micro-entrepreneurs to achieve their business goals in the digital economy,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc., the mobile wallet operator of GCash. Micro-merchants are those with businesses that are smaller in scale, such as sari-sari store owners, public market vendors, and online sellers. Making use of GCash’s scan-to-pay enables faster tracking of payments received for merchants without imposing any additional cost, even for their customers.

“We are one with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in its goal of bringing more micro-merchants into the digital economy. Together with our partners, we will equip micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the right tools and products so they can grow their businesses safely and conveniently,” Reyes said. To date, GCash has been empowering 845,000 small-scale community merchants with various digital financial solutions.
