GMA International, the overseas arm of Philippine broadcast company GMA Network Inc., joins forces with the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) as the ladder's exclusive media sponsor of the 13th annual TOFA (The Outstanding Filipino Awards) Awards. This esteemed event set to take place on October 27, 2023 in Downtown Los Angeles, California promises to be a night of celebration, recognition, and inspiration as part of this year's Filipino American History Month celebration. The 13th Annual TOFA Awards, organized and produced by TOFA Awards, LLC., has long been a beacon of honor and recognition for Filipinos across the world. This year marks a significant milestone as the event moves beyond its traditional New York setting to embrace the vibrant Filipino community in Los Angeles.
TOFA Awards 2023 seeks to unite and uplift Filipino Americans by recognizing their outstanding contributions to various fields. It's a celebration of resilience, courage, and remarkable accomplishments that Filipinos have achieved on the global stage. This year's event will be hosted by King of the Talk Boy Abunda. Among the esteemed awardees is GMA Network's award-winning broadcast journalist and Integrated News and Public Affairs pillar Jessica Soho, who is expected to grace the event in Los Angeles. She will be presented with the prestigious Global Awards for Journalism in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the worldwide Filipino media industry. Also included in its distinguished lineup of awardees are former Philippine Vice President Atty. Leni Robredo, Supreme Court of the Philippines Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel, the creative team behind Broadway's “Here Lies Love" and May Parsons, the first Filipina nurse to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in the UK. These remarkable individuals have made indelible marks in their respective fields and serve as an inspiration to us all.
Throughout its history, The TOFA Awards has recognized over 200 remarkable Filipinos including luminaries such as multiple award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga, Rappler co-founder and CEO Maria Ressa, Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco, the world's first and only armless pilot Jessica Cox, White House Chef Cris Comerford, and GMA Pinoy TV among many others.
