Globe Telecom has forged a partnership with the Design Center of the Philippines, an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), to recognize exemplary design and systems that enrich the quality of human life. Globe is collaborating with the DTI agency for the Good Design Award Philippines, a biennial event that spotlights work that seamlessly blends form, function, and innovation, all while embodying the Filipino value of malasakit or compassion. These criteria underscore the award’s commitment to aesthetics, usability, and designs that resonate with empathy and social responsibility.

“Technology without creativity is a canvas with no paint and no point. And Globe is truly passionate about the role of humanity — our ideas, our power to create, and our ability to care – in giving innovation its purpose. It is with pride and absolute joy to be representing what we stand for as a digital solutions company,” said Paolo Toledo, Head of Creative Development at Globe’s Marketing group. “In just two editions, the Good Design Award Philippines has become a launching pad for Filipino design talent. Seeing our design entries awarded the prestigious Japanese G-Mark at the 2022 Good Design Award Japan was a real turning point. It proves they can compete and succeed on the international stage. That’s why we’re ramping up our efforts in 2024. We want to empower even more Filipino creators and truly put Philippine design on the global map through the Good Design Award Philippines,” said Design Center of the Philippines' Deputy Executive Director Lucky Lopez. To kick off the collaboration, Globe hosted the initial round of deliberations for the award on March 21, 2024 at The Globe Tower, its headquarters in Taguig City. Toledo serves as Juror for the Image Making category along with 30 others who include design luminaries including world-renowned Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue, Tina Periquet of or Periquet Galicia, Jowee Alviar of Team Manila, Butch Carungay of Cebu UNESCO City of Design, Reese Fernandez-Ruiz of Rags2Riches of the and Emi Englis of Davao Fashion Council.

Good Design Award Philippines encourages designers and companies to create products, services, and systems that address social, economic, and environmental sustainability under these categories:

Object Making celebrates tangible and purposeful products.
Place Making focuses on designing aesthetic and functional environments through architecture and interior design.
Image Making highlights mediums for effective and compelling communication of ideas.
Systems and Service Design showcases the efficiency and sustainability of operations for organizations and people.
Material Innovation explores new solutions based on circularity principles where materials are reused and waste is designed out.

Winners stand to win the Good Design Award Philippines seal and a trophy inspired by the original artwork of Filipino visual artist Arturo Luz, a National Artist. Awardees will also get the privilege of being featured on the official website gallery and in the biennial yearbook. Their work will also be promoted professionally through a dedicated photo shoot and video production. Winning entries in the Philippine wards will be automatically considered for the esteemed Good Design Awards Japan. The Good Design Award Philippines celebrates excellence and the potential of design as a tool for positive change. The partnership between Globe and the Design Center of the Philippines marks a significant step towards a future where design and technology work hand in hand to create solutions that are not just innovative but also compassionate and sustainable.
