vivo Achieves 11.7% Year-On-Year Market Share Growth

In the Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report released by market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) on February 21, 2024, vivo stood out with impressive year-on-year (YoY) market share growth in the Philippines. The global smartphone brand increased its market share from 10.5 percent in 2022 to 11.3 percent in 2023. This data proves that vivo’s position in the market has been strong, thanks to its nonstop pursuit of innovation. vivo has been steadfast in its efforts to provide Filipinos with premium yet innovative phones with the best imaging capabilities. This commitment is evident in its latest offerings in the V and Y series.

Launched in September 2023, the vivo V29 Series is the latest in vivo’s V Series. Social Media Influencers Take On Challenge To Be Creators #ForEveryChild To Protect Children From Online Abuse And Exploitation

As the country wraps up this year’s Safer Internet Month, UNICEF Philippines awarded the first-ever annual badge of recognition to digital influencers who accepted the challenge to be Creators #ForEveryChild. They have lent their unique creative platforms and reach to fight for the rights of every child in the country, especially the most vulnerable to online abuse and exploitation.

The Creators #ForEveryChild – AJ Bacar, Anina Rubio, Buji Babiera, Cat TriviƱo, Ginger Arboleda, Inka Magnaye, Jing Ruiz, Karl Bautista, Raco Ruiz, Reb Atadero, Riyan Portuguez – received the badge and certificates of appreciation during the Safer Internet Convention on Digital Responsibility held by UNICEF today. These influencers’ have contributed to ending online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, including abusive and exploitative materials. This is very timely, as most Philippine children and young people look up – some of them exclusively – to social media influencers for informative content. This year’s theme calls on everyone to prevent this scrouge and work with Government to step up implementation of Republic Act No. 11930, otherwise known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material Act, that strengthens the country’s response and protection of children to online predators. According to a UNICEF-ECPAT-Interpol Disrupting Harm study, 20 percent of children ages 12 to 17 reported being victims of this abuse in 2021. Unfortunately, due to stigma, disclosure is disproportionately low – despite various reporting channels. Only 0-4 percent of victims ever reported and only 0-3 percent know how to report to the police or to helplines.

The convention was attended by close to 100 children and youth who co-developed a Digital Responsibility Programme which aims to increase the capacity and protective behavior of learners and teachers in navigating online and digital platforms. It was organized by the Positive Youth Development Network, the Department of Education and the local government units of Valenzuela City and Angeles City with UNICEF support. UNICEF Philippines underscores the importance of adults and children in growing their understanding of their digital responsibility. Safer Internet Month is helping build youth, parent and caregiver’s digital literacy or the skills they need to live, learn, and work in a society where information is increasingly channeled through digital technology and social media. Ultimately, the collective effort will maximize the positive experience that children and young people can get from the internet while preventing all forms of online abuse and exploitation.

Filipino Indie-Rock Band CHEATS To Celebrate 10th Year Anniversary With Intimate Show

Filipino indie-rock outfit CHEATS will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in the local music scene with a headline show happening on March 16, 2024 at the Balcony Music House in Makati City. The “Accidents” band will be performing a long set featuring fan favorites and rarities. Joining CHEATS are some of their long-time music peers including SOS, Oh, Flamingo! and Sandwich. In a press statement, the eclectic 7-piece act explains, “We wanted to do a show that has a ‘party like it’s the mid-2010s’ vibe, which is the reason why we chose Sandwich, SOS, and Oh, Flamingo! to share the stage with us. They were among the bands we loved (and still do) and played a lot with back when the band was just starting. We’ll all play lengthy sets, and while we haven’t come up with a set list yet, we’ll likely play as many of our favorite songs as possible from the last 10 years.”

The intimate gathering also doubles as a launch for the band’s special limited-edition merchandise, particularly the classic CHEATS logo shirt with new colorways, re-released for those who haven’t had the chance to get one or want to collect them all. CHEATS also expressed gratitude to the fans who have continuously supported their work all these years, stating, “Thanks to everyone who has supported the band, whether you’ve been there since the early days or just discovered us fairly recently. This will be our first show since last September, so we’re itching to play again for all of you.” CHEATS was first formed by Jim Bacarro in 2013 and features Bacarro on vocals, keys, and guitar; Saab Magalona and Candy Gamos on vocals; Manny Tanglao on bass; Jason Caballa and Kyle Quismundo on guitars; and Enzo Hermosa on drums. The 7-piece band has produced three critically acclaimed studio albums to date: 2016’s Cheats, 2017’s Before The Babies, and 2022’s Houseplants. They have also headlined several music festivals here and abroad, such as Wanderland Music and Arts Festival, Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival, Laneway Music Festival, and AXEAN Festival, to name a few.
