GMA Network, ABS-CBN Win Big At Asian Academy Creative Awards 2024 With National Winner Recognitions

Several programs and personalities of GMA Network, the largest and leading broadcast media company in the Philippines, and ABS-CBN, the country's premier media and entertainment company and leading content provider, were among those who have been hailed as National Winners for the Philippines in the 2024 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA). These were announced in a special announcement showcase last September 25, 2024 which was streamed online on the event's official Facebook page and YouTube channel.

For the sixth time, GMA Network's flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras was hailed as the National Winner in the Best News/Current Affairs Programme category for its coverage of the situation of Metro Manila and various areas in Luzon impacted by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina while GMA Integrated News' special documentary series "Unang Balita: Pinsala Ng El NiƱo" where Darlene Cay talked about the dangerous effects of extreme heat in the Philippines through the stories of the people of Oriental Mindoro won as National Winner in the Best Documentary Series category. Meanwhile, "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS): If Looks Could Kill" was hailed as National Winner in the Best Infotainment Programme category. Just like 24 Oras, it is also the sixth time that KMJS bagged the national award in the category. "Reporter's Notebook: Upuan Ni Ipiw" and "Biyahe Ni Drew: Let's Go To Oriental Mindoro" were also named National Winners in the Best Documentary Programme (One-Off) and Best Lifestyle Programme categories respectively. GMA Public Affairs Senior Assistant Vice President Angeli Atienza was also hailed as National Winner in the Best Screenplay category for the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival and Manila International Film Festival Best Picture "Firefly". Other GMA Network programs and personalities hailed as National Winners in the 2024 Asian Academy Creative Awards include "Magpakailanman: Sa Puso't Isipan: The Cantillana Family Story" as Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology Episode, "Pulang Araw" as Best Promo Or Trailer, "Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy ang Kuwento" as Best Comedy Programme and Michael V as Best Actor/Actress in a Comedy Role, Dingdong Dantes for "Family Feud Philippines" as Best Entertainment Host, "The Voice Generations" as Best Adaptation of an Existing Format (Non-Scripted), "iBilib" as Best Children's Programme and Sparkle GMA Artist Center star Kokoy de Santos as Best Actor in a Leading Role for his daring and exemplary performance in "Your Mother's Son".

On the other hand, leading the National Winner recognitions for ABS-CBN is the mystery-thriller series “Linlang", which was first streamed on Prime Video, bagging the most honors in multiple categories — Best Drama Series, JM De Guzman as Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Kaila Estrada as Best Supporting Actress. Box-office queen Kathryn Bernardo also secured the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for her blockbuster comeback movie “A Very Good Girl" while the Philippine adaptation of the hit South Korean romantic comedy drama series “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim,” a Viu original adaptation produced by ABS-CBN starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, was recognized in the Best Adaptation of an Existing Format (Scripted) category.  Mae Cruz-Alviar also emerged with a top honor — winning the Best Direction (Fiction) award for "Can't Buy Me Love." ABS-CBN’s entertainment programs, “It’s Showtime” and “ASAP Live in Milan,” also emerged victorious, winning in the Best General Entertainment Program and Best Music or Dance Program categories, respectively. Other National Winners announced include Viu original series Secret Ingredient as Best Branded Programme and Best Original Production by a Streamer - Fiction, People's Television Network Inc. (PTV-4)'s "Public Eye" as Best Documentary Programme - History, Cathy Yang of ONE News' Thought Leaders as Best Factual Presenter, "Your Mother's Love" as Best Feature Film, BBC News' Clash In The South China Sea as Best Single News Story/Report and "Primetime Mother" by Sonny Calvento as Best Short Form Drama.

Seventeen National Winners of each category are set to compete against other regional champions in the AACA's international round with the Grand Final Awards to be held on December in Singapore. The AACA is regarded as the most prestigious awards for creative excellence in the Asia-Pacfic region, celebrating works from Australia & New Zealand, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region), India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
