Aligned with their thrust to support inclusive initiatives enabling people with disabilities, PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), in partnership with Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of the Visually Impaired (ATRIEV), recently supported the Festival of Talents and Disability Knowledge Bowl Tournament Quiz Bee hosted by the Office of the Provincial Governor – Office of the Provincial Persons with Disability Affairs Officer (OPG-OPPDAO) in the province of Cavite. Representatives from the different offices under the Offices of the Provincial Vice Governor and First District Board Member (Chairperson on Social Welfare, Family, Women, Children, and Elderly) also attended the event at SM City Dasmariñas.

For Ace John Mamauag of Cavite State University-Carmona, his participation was a chance for him to showcase his talent and ability and share it with other people with disabilities. He believes that the support from government agencies and firms like PLDT and Smart for this event is important, saying, “We would like to thank them for supporting this kind of program for people with disabilities.” On the other hand, Gabriel Querubin joined the event to show what people with disabilities can do, stating, "We just need to open our minds to see that everyone has their own ability and creativity that can contribute to the development of this world.” He also says that getting support from the public and private sectors is vital in this advocacy. “We can’t do this alone. We need the support of people to show talents and capabilities,” he added.

OPG-OPPDAO is a team under the Office of the Provincial Governor of Cavite mandated to develop and implement disability programs, services, and policies to support and put forward the rights of people with disabilities. “The support of different organizations is important because it takes a whole-of-nation approach to address the needs of people with disabilities and to promote inclusion. PLDT and Smart’s assistance really added to our resources, helping us highlight the talents of people with disabilities,” said OPG-OPPDAO Disability Affairs Officer IV Marie Shiela Haloc. This partnership is aligned with the PLDT Group’s commitment to helping the country achieve United Nations Sustainability Development Goal (UNSDG) #10: Reduced Inequalities.

In celebration of World First Aid Day last September, PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) boost workplace safety with the adoption of blended learning for first responders among its workforce. The PLDT Group has tapped the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to provide Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support Training to the company’s emergency team through its online ‘e-learnified’ platform. “Understanding the different roles of our core emergency team at PLDT and Smart, we have engaged the PRC to provide a flexible training platform that will boost the knowledge and skills of our responders in attending to emergencies and life-threatening situations, as we expand our efforts to protect our most valuable asset – the workforce,” said PLDT Vice President for Property and Facilities Management Leo A. Gonzales.

Composed of volunteer employees, PLDT and Smart’s first aiders are part of a broader Emergency Management Team (EMT) that responds to critical situations in the workplace. Other units include the Volunteer Fire Brigade including search and rescue units, communication teams from Security Command Administration, and evacuation teams in different facilities. Reinforcing the PLDT Group’s culture of preparedness, EMT members regularly attend trainings and capacity building activities on Fire Safety, Emergency Management, Disaster Risk Assessment and Management, and Disaster Mitigation Preparedness and Response. PLDT and Smart also regularly conduct emergency simulations to prepare their employees for unexpected disruptive events. Key employees, likewise, attend Emergency Management conferences organized by experts. The PLDT Group also participates in the quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drills to reinforce its culture of preparedness.

The PLDT Group’s initiatives to train employee emergency responders underscore its efforts to help the country attain the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal (UNSDG) #8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting safe and secure working environments for all workers, and #11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities. They also highlight PLDT and Smart’s wider commitment to promote disaster resilience among Filipinos towards a #SafeandSmart Philippines through continuous availability of communication services, mobile solutions, and activities to help communities mitigate disaster.

England’s Lewis McGrillen (10-1) and Germany’s Alexander Luster (9-1) will compete for the PFL Europe Bantamweight Championship after each fighter put on an unbelievable performance at the Playoffs. It was an easy decision to bring the PFL Europe Championships here, and there was no better time to make our debut in Lyon. Our PFL Europe Championships will see the continent’s best mixed martial artists compete for our prestigious title and a $100,000 prize, and with everything on the line, we know the fans are in for a night of MMA that will be talked about for years to come," said PFL CEO Peter Murray.
