The stage is set for an extraordinary tennis celebration as the Singapore Tennis Open (STO) 2025 welcomes fans to the Singapore Sports Hub on January 27-February 2, 2025. This year’s event brings an exciting new addition: the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup, a regional showcase of talent that will run concurrently with the WTA 250 tournament on January 28-February 1, 2025 at the Kallang Tennis Hub. Organized by the Singapore Tennis Association (STA) in partnership with Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM), the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup will see 32 national players from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia compete across five categories: Ladies’ Singles & Doubles, Men’s Singles & Doubles, and Mixed Doubles
The Kallang Tennis Hub, a state-of-the-art venue designed for international competitions and athlete training, will host the event, offering players and fans an immersive tennis experience. The Invitational Cup aims to empower regional players, providing them with valuable exposure to high-level competition while fostering a sense of community. STA President Jasmine Quek emphasized the tournament’s significance, stating, “This tournament represents an invaluable opportunity for Southeast Asia’s national tennis athletes to compete in a high-calibre environment that replicates the intensity of international competition. It serves as a vital platform for our Team Singapore athletes as they prepare for the 2025 SEA Games.” Kallang Alive Sports Management (KASM) Group Head of Events and Placemaking Yazed Osman highlighted the broader impact, saying, “This invitational cup underscores Singapore’s role as a regional sporting hub and aims to create a ripple effect across local and regional tennis ecosystems, offering both players and fans a richer, more engaging experience with the sport.” The Invitational Cup boasts an impressive lineup of players and tennis figures from across Southeast Asia:
• Indonesia: Led by former SEA Games gold medalist Andrian Raturandang, the team features a legacy of resilience and skill.
• Malaysia: Anchored by Hao Sheng Koay, a 2023 SEA Games bronze medalist in doubles, highlighting the nation’s growing prominence in tennis.
• Cambodia: Represented by Chenda Som, whose standout performance at the 2023 SEA Games solidified her status as a rising star in Cambodian tennis.
Regional tennis associations praised the initiative. Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia President Mirzan Mahathir described it as “a valuable opportunity for preparation ahead of the SEA Games” while Cambodian Tennis Federation Secretary-General Tep Rithivit remarked that the event “solidifies friendships and strengthens the regional tennis community”.
