De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) formally strengthened its long-standing relationship with the United Tourism and Hospitality Professionals (UTHP) through a ceremonial signing held on September 10, 2025 at the DLSL Boardroom. Present during the momentous event were key administrators from DLSL led by Chancellor Dr. Merlin Teodosia Suarez; Vice Chancellor for Academics Dr. Tessie Palma; Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Internationalization Dr. Sheila Maloles; Hospitality Management Program Chair and UTHP Vice President Dr. Maria Madel Ocampo; and External Linkages and International Relations Office (ELIRO) Director Ms. Grace Sanchez. Joining them were the officers of UTHP headed by Chairman of the Board Dr. Alex Ylagan, President Dr. Noelah Mae Borbon, Regional Director for South Luzon Dr. Jose Romulus Martinez, Auditor and Chairman for Industry Linkages Dr. Jeninah Christia Pulhin, and Adviser Dr. Murphy Torralba. Officers of UTHYP (United Tourism and Hospitality Young Professionals) were also in attendance, representing the next generation of industry leaders.

A Partnership Built On Shared Roots
In her message, Dr. Maria Madel Ocampo traced the history of the collaboration, recalling how the journey began in 2020 and grew into what is now UTHP. She emphasized that, beyond organizational ties, the partnership is anchored in unity, camaraderie, and a shared purpose. She proudly highlighted that DLSL has always been a strong supporter of UTHP initiatives and that faculty and students alike have taken active roles in its programs — from national conventions and research conferences to leadership positions in UTHYP. This year, the partnership takes on new significance as DLSL’s College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management recently hosted the Second National Skills Competition last October 4, 2025 with students leading both the event management and VIP catering components. Dr. Ocampo expressed, “May today’s ceremonial MOU mark the beginning of a fruitful and inspiring partnership between UTHP and De La Salle Lipa — one that opens doors to continued innovation, collaboration, and growth in tourism and hospitality education.”

Formalizing What Already Exists
For UTHP President Dr. Noelah Mae Borbon, the ceremony was not about starting something new but about affirming what has already been nurtured over the years. Describing De La Salle Lipa as a “home” that has consistently extended generosity and support to the organization, Dr. Borbon remarked, “This event is not truly the beginning of a partnership. Rather, it is the formalization of a connection that has long existed.” She acknowledged the invaluable contributions of DLSL faculty serving as UTHP officers, citing Dr. Ocampo and Dr. Katapang as exemplary Lasallian professionals whose dedication reflects the institution’s values. She also underscored UTHP’s three pillars — education, research, and community service — areas where both organizations share a common mission. She also shared, “With this MOU, we are not just beginning; we are strengthening. If before our relationship was like mutual understanding, today, it feels as though we are sealing that bond in marriage,” drawing smiles from attendees. Closing the ceremony, DLSL Vice Chancellor for Academics Dr. Tessie Palma reiterated how UTHP’s core mission resonates deeply with DLSL’s own, affirming, “Your commitment to education, research, and community service strongly aligns with our mission at De La Salle Lipa. This shared vision makes our collaboration all the more significant.” She emphasized how the partnership will enrich the learning experiences of DLSL students and faculty through expanded networks, industry linkages, and real-world engagement — further strengthening the college’s role as a hub for innovation and leadership in hospitality and tourism education.

Lasallian Leadership In Tourism And Hospitality
With this ceremonial signing, De La Salle Lipa commits once again to leading in the fields of tourism and hospitality education, not only in Batangas but also across the region and beyond. More than a formality, the MOU represents the institution’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence, global competence, and social transformation. As it continues to nurture partnerships that matter, De La Salle Lipa remains steadfast in its vision of shaping graduates who will not only excel in their chosen careers but also contribute meaningfully to building a more innovative, inclusive, and globally connected hospitality and tourism industry.
