The skies just got brighter for travelers between the Philippines and Guam, as Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced the direct Cebu–Guam flights starting December 16, 2025 – a move warmly welcomed by the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) as a milestone for both connectivity and cultural exchange. The new three-times-a-week service will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, offering a nonstop link between Cebu and Guam that is expected to do more than just reduce travel time. For GVB, this route represents an opportunity to deepen Guam’s ties with one of the most vibrant regions in the Philippines and to celebrate the enduring presence of Filipinos who have helped shape the island’s identity.
Speaking at the official route launch held at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, GVB President and CEO Régine Biscoe Lee expressed excitement over the direct connection, stating, “Cebu and Guam are more than neighboring islands; we share a love for hospitality, family, and celebration. It allows Guamanians to experience the richness of the Visayas, while inviting more Filipinos to enjoy the warmth and uniqueness of Guam’s island life.” Guam Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio welcomed the announcement, saying, “Guam and the Philippines share deep family, cultural, and economic ties, and this new direct route to Cebu makes those connections even stronger. These flights will give our people more opportunities to reunite with loved ones, expand business opportunities, and celebrate our shared heritage.” Philippine Airlines continues to position Cebu as a central hub for international travel. With current routes to Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam, the addition of Guam extends Cebu’s reach into the U.S. Pacific, allowing for easier access for both leisure and business travelers. PAL’s Head of Philippine Sales Bryan Ang noted, “This is a win for everyone. It makes travel more seamless and enhances our ability to serve key diaspora communities.”
Senator Jesse Lujan of Guam's 38th Legislature shared, “This didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of years of hard work and collaboration. We’re opening doors for more families to reconnect, for businesses to grow, and to diversify beyond our traditional markets.” Aboitiz InfraCapital’s CEO Athanasios Titonis welcomed the Cebu–Guam route as a vital reconnection to the U.S. Pacific, calling it a boost for faster island travel and Cebu’s growing role in regional tourism and trade. The flights will utilize the Airbus A321ceo or A321neo, departing Cebu at 9:40 pm and arriving in Guam by 3:25 am. Return flights will leave Guam at 5:15 am, landing in Cebu at 6:50 am. As both islands gear up for the December launch, the Cebu–Guam route stands as a testament to shared roots and renewed possibilities – a flight path paved with friendship, culture, and collaboration.

Batangas State University Integrated School (BatStateU-IS) continues to raise the bar in STEM and innovation education as Team S.C.O.P.E. (Safeguarding Construction Optimizing Pollutant Elimination) emerges as one of the ten outstanding research proposals in the Department of Science and Technology’s Young Innovators Program (YIP) Ideathon 2025. Out of 63 research proposals submitted nationwide, only 19 teams advanced to the final round of the YIP Ideathon. Team S.C.O.P.E., composed of Apoll Marc Venedict A. Hernandez, Edwin G. Macuha Jr., and Sherwin Vien Hienzo G. Melo under the mentorship of Mr. Jomari B. Montalbo, impressed the panel of experts with their visionary robotic innovation addressing occupational safety in construction environments.
Their project, S.C.O.P.E., is a 3D-printed, AI-powered robotic system designed to clear construction obstacles, prevent slips and falls, and eliminate harmful cement dust — contributing to cleaner, safer, and more sustainable building practices. This innovation not only won the hearts of judges but also earned the team a ₱500,000 grant to further develop their prototype. The final pitch and evaluation were held last October 4, 2025, at the Titanium Auditorium, Metals and Industry Development Center (MIRDC), DOST Compound, Taguig City following a two-day online mentoring session last September 29–30. Team S.C.O.P.E.’s selection underscores BatStateU-IS’s reputation as a breeding ground for socially relevant, impact-driven innovations led by the next generation of Filipino engineers and researchers. Head Teacher III Luis Philip M. Oropesa shared, “This achievement is a powerful validation of how student-led innovation can shape industries and lives. Team S.C.O.P.E. exemplifies the Red Spartan brand of research with purpose.”
The Young Innovators Program (YIP) of DOST-PCIEERD (Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development) is one of the most competitive platforms for youth research in the country, offering mentorship, funding, and prototyping opportunities to student teams focused on real-world problems in areas like AI, robotics, additive manufacturing, and automation. For 2025, the program focused on junior and senior high school students from NCR, Region III, and Region IV-A. BatStateU-IS’s continued recognition on national and international platforms reinforces the university’s vision of engineering the future.

De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) has been recognized as a "Valued Partner" by the Philippine Air Force's Air Education and Training Command (AETC) in celebration of its 73rd Founding Anniversary last October 8, 2025. This esteemed citation acknowledges DLSL’s significant role in elevating education, professional development, and character formation within the PAF ranks. The honor serves as an affirmation of DLSL’s commitment to future-ready training, particularly through its innovative collaboration with the Philippine Air Force. This partnership was recently highlighted by the successful Certification Training for IT Specialist – Artificial Intelligence (AI) program, conducted on July 2025 by DLSL’s Institute for Professional Advancement and Continuing Education (iPACE).
Held at Lipa City's Fernando Air Base, the intensive six-day program equipped 30 PAF Officers, Enlisted Personnel, and Civilian Human Resources with vital competencies in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence. The curriculum spanned responsible data evaluation, machine learning applications, and essential ethical AI use, marking a critical step toward modernizing the PAF’s technical capabilities. The recognition ceremony, which honored stakeholders integral to the AETC's mission, highlighted the shared goal of both institutions: to empower individuals through a blend of educational excellence, innovation, and national service. Representing the institution were Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academics – College Dr. Nerissa Lucasia and iPACE Director Dr. Lanie M. Santos who accepted the honor on behalf of the Lasallian community. This dynamic partnership is rooted in the shared values of discipline, innovation, and service to the nation.
As DLSL continues to support the AETC’s educational mission, this collaboration powerfully demonstrates how academic institutions can converge with the country’s protectors, ensuring that military and civilian personnel are equipped with the knowledge and ethical grounding necessary to navigate a complex, evolving technological landscape. De La Salle Lipa is honored to stand alongside the PAF Air Education and Training Command in shaping a generation of leaders, protectors, and innovators dedicated to the future of the Philippines.
