From streaming entertainment and shopping online to learning new skills, running businesses, and staying connected with loved ones, mobile connectivity has become an essential part of everyday life for millions of Filipinos. Keeping pace with these evolving digital habits, Globe Telecom continues to strengthen its mobile business through sustained investments in network quality, customer experience, and next-generation technologies, enabling the company to maintain healthy mobile leadership in an increasingly connected world. During the first quarter, Globe rolled out 408 new 5G sites, bringing outdoor 5G population coverage to more than 98% in Metro Manila and key cities across the Visayas and Mindanao.

The way Filipinos use mobile services has changed dramatically over the years, with data becoming the primary driver of customer engagement. Today, mobile data accounts for 89% of Globe’s total mobile service revenues, up from 85% a year ago, reflecting the growing preference for digital services over traditional voice and SMS. During the first quarter of 2026, Globe’s mobile business generated Php30B (30 billion pesos) in revenues, up 6% year-on-year, while its subscriber base expanded to around 67 million customers. Customers are also spending more time online than ever before. Mobile data revenues increased 11% year-on-year, driven by higher usage of video streaming, social media, gaming, digital payments, and other online services. Mobile data traffic rose 18%, while average monthly data consumption reached approximately 16 GB per subscriber. More than 39 million Globe customers now actively use mobile data services, underscoring the increasingly central role of connectivity in everyday life. The GlobeOne app has also seen significant growth, now reaching an average of 8 million monthly users. As digital lifestyles continue to evolve, Globe is investing to ensure its network is able to serve customer demand. “Our priority is to execute on our plans well. We will deliver better customer experience through our digital platforms, and serve products that are relevant through hyperpersonalization. While we continue to expand our 5G network, we intend to deepen our fiber footprint, and differentiate more using digital technologies,” said Globe Chief Commercial Officer Darius Delgado. As more aspects of everyday life become digital, Globe remains committed to delivering reliable mobile connectivity that empowers individuals, enables businesses, and helps communities thrive in an increasingly connected Philippines.

Globe Enhances Multi-Tiered Security Measures To Shield Customers
Whenever the telecom sector shuts down one path for fraudsters, cybercriminals find another route. As providers bolster defenses against spoofed SMS, harmful links, and SIM-related fraud, scammers keep evolving their methods, making the battle against online fraud a continuous challenge rather than a one-off fix. Globe's Chief Information Security Officer Garrett Silao stated, “Fraudsters are always searching for new ways to target victims. When the industry tightens controls against one form of attack, we frequently observe scammers switching to different strategies and platforms. This is why anti-scam initiatives cannot depend on a single fix. It demands ongoing innovation, cooperation, and public education.” Over time, Globe has progressively fortified its protections against digital fraud through actions like securing enterprise sender IDs, blocking harmful links, detecting SIM box activities, and utilizing network analytics to spot suspicious behavior. These efforts have helped decrease common SMS scams that once affected millions of mobile users. As conventional attack methods become more difficult to carry out, scammers have started using more advanced techniques. One example is the deployment of illegal IMSI Catchers, or fake cell towers, which deceive nearby mobile devices into connecting to them instead of legitimate cellular networks. Unlike spoofed SMS messages that come from messaging systems, IMSI catchers exploit cellular networks by emitting a stronger signal that tricks nearby phones into connecting automatically and bypassing security measures. While these devices function differently from traditional scams, they highlight a broader truth: cybercriminals constantly modify their tactics as security improves. To keep up with these changing threats, Globe has implemented a multi-layered strategy combining network defense, threat intelligence, industry cooperation, and customer education. The company collaborates closely with enterprise partners to secure legitimate messaging channels, proactively blocks known phishing sites, and shares intelligence with banks, government bodies, and law enforcement to detect and respond to new threats faster. Globe has also broadened its consumer protection beyond technical defenses. Through programs like Go Safe with Globe, Scam Shield on the GlobeOne app, customer alerts, and digital literacy campaigns, the company continues to provide Filipinos with practical knowledge to identify and avoid scams before harm occurs. Silao explained, “Technology is vital in safeguarding customers, but awareness is just as crucial. The better informed people are about scam tactics, the harder it becomes for fraudsters to succeed. Protecting consumers is a collective duty requiring industry, government, and the public to collaborate.” As scams grow more complex, Globe keeps investing in stronger defenses while partnering with public and private sectors to stay ahead of new threats. The company urges customers to stay vigilant when receiving unsolicited messages, requests for sensitive data, or offers that pressure urgency, and to report suspicious activities through official channels to help protect others from falling victim.
