2016 was certainly an interesting and highly intriguing year for the global smartphone market, especially when tech enthusiasts were still talking about the demise of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 which is now in the resurrection stage and players in the mobile industry have taken advantage of the debacle and the lost confidence in the Korean tech giant. But, the said year became resilient for one of the tech industry's surprise players, Vivo.

Vivo's first flagship smartphones, the Vivo V5 and Vivo V5 Plus, have been warmly welcomed and strongly received by selfie-loving addicts not only in the Philippines but all over the world. The success of the brand in the global selfie smartphone war became a major factor in Vivo's recent achievement as the new staple in the top 5 mobile brands in the world.

Based on data from the International Data Corporation, Vivo has reportedly shipped out about 24.7 million smartphone units in different parts of the world during the fourth quarter of last year, where most of them were within China. The brand also had a significant increase in sales at 103% compared to last year's increase, amounting to 77 million smartphones shipped and sold out. This data is enough for Vivo to unseat fellow Chinese brand Xiaomi in the list with a market share of 5.9%. Also, contributing to Vivo's success throughout the said year is its Southeast Asian expansion and two-time NBA season MVP Stephen Curry as its ambassador, which is considered a plus to where it is today.

There's more in store for Vivo in 2017. As long as the smartphone markets in different countries continue to be more competitive, Vivo will always strive to push more in its commitment to secure a higher spot in the top mobile brands list. For now, congratulations to Vivo Philippines for its ongoing efforts!!
