UnionBank announced on March 6, 2017 that its EON debit card is taking selfies to a whole new level as it allows customers to perform "selfie banking", which is a first in the local banking industry.

According to the company, the new innovation would prompt customers to log in to their own account just by taking selfies on their EON mobile app. The new feature on the service uses the latest state-of-the-art face recognition technology, which is used in the United States and other countries in securing borders, immigration and critical infrastructure.

The addition of face technology in the EON service is a testament of assuring customers a gold standard in security and a new process which would protect them from escalating threats of cybersecurity. It is also slated to replace the old authentication process where passwords are easily compromised. For Unionbank EON, the only password you need to enter is a selfie. And in the future, it would take a selfie to open and check your bank account on mobile devices.
