The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino
(MPP) recently announced and released the official list of nominees for the
40th Gawad Brian awards. Looking at the list proves that the independent scene
remains resilient in the Philippine movie industry beyond being underrated
considering that six of the finest Filipino indie films were chosen to vie for
Best Picture.

Aside from the official list of nominees, the MPP also announced that Lipa
City representative and eight-time Gawad Brian best actress Hon. Vilma Santos-Recto
will be this year's recipient of the Natatanging
Urian Lifetime Achievement Award. The said award is given out to artists who
have made significant contributions to the local movie industry through the
years and not just by his or her outstanding performances in movies.
