The
collegiate basketball season in the Philippines has already kicked off with the
recent start of Season 93 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA), with players from ten member-schools making their own legacy in the
collegiate basketball courts and eventually fulfilling their own goals to local
basketball glory.
And
since the new season of NCAA is all about honor and pride, it was quite fitting
to learn that last Saturday's opening ceremony paid homage to some of the
Philippine basketball stars of the past and present who have started their
legacy in NCAA defending their school's pride. Among them include "The
Skywalker" Samboy Lim, two-time Philippine national men's basketball team
member Alvin Patrimonio, Calvin "The Beast" Abueva, Earl Scottie Thompson,
and even the basketball legend Carlos Loyzaga.
But,
sometimes, honor and pride may be too much even in the world of college basketball
due to some unforseen circumstances that we can't expect to happen. That was
the case for the Perpetual Help Altas when they thought they won their first match,
but their victory was wasted due to the fact they wore the wrong uniform.
Usually, these circumstances refer to unavoidable feuds and lack of active
players among others, but having the wrong equipment is an unimaginative matter
that we never thought to be possible.
