The
latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is breaking new grounds in
the Philippine box office as Spiderman: Homecoming has set a new industry
record in just four days of its showing across near 600 theaters nationwide.
As
told in an official statement released by Columbia Pictures Philippines, the
superhero movie reboot earned Php204.88 million in local box office gross which
now holds the record of having the all-time biggest July opening. Its four-day
gross has also broken records that were held by movies previously shown in the
Philippines by Columbia, which include the Biggest Non-Holiday Opening, Biggest
Saturday Opening and even Biggest Sunday Opening.
Overall,
Spiderman: Homecoming opened the weekend strong with a worldwide box office
gross of US$260 million across 20 markets, including North America (US and Canada)
which made US$120 million over the weekend. Aside from its tremendously strong
box office sales, the movie has eventually gained nods and praises from critics
and movie buffs, especially for the diversity of the movie's cast.
