Filipino movie buffs and superhero fans have spoken!! Wonder Woman has
completely overtaken the Man of Steel and The Dark Knight in Philippine cinemas
and is now the highest-grossing Warner Bros. movie of all time in the
Philippines.
According to Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines general manager Francis
Soliven, the superhero origin movie has earned an accumulated box-office gross
of Php520 million, succeeding the lifetime box-office gross of last year's
blockbuster superhero thriller "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of
Justice". This record states that the movie has tremendous staying power
in local cinemas for about a month, as well as becoming an inspiration for many
moviegoers, becoming one of the most successful movies for today's generation
of Philippine pop culture.
In fact, Wonder Woman's success in the Philippine box-office is
mirrored by an equally tremendous traction in the North American box-office.
Even after it bowed after a month, Wonder Woman remains strong and is now
hailed as one of the most successful stories so far in the DC Extended
Universe. Globally, Wonder Woman grossed about US$660 million although it is
yet to be shown in 12 countries. Once they are all accounted for, the superhero
movie is poised to reach US$1 billion in worldwide box-office sales.
