The Philippine music scene is now bustling with emerging artists who excel in their own crafts which blurred the borders between them and seasoned acts. These up-and-coming performers take advantage of available channels to promote and share their own talent, and it looks like big brands are starting to show their support for them. But, Coke Studio Philippines is taking its support for OPM (Original Philippine Music) to a different level.

Launched last July, Coke Studio is not just a platform for future seasoned acts to showcase their craft. It provides opportunity for them to work with some of the country's well-respected music icons, cover each other's hits and collaborate for a new original song altogether. This would lead to fourteen re-imagined singles and seven new original songs written by seven of the OPM's seasonal performers and seven emerging local acts.

I managed to watch the first two episodes of the show and I was truly impressed by the magic created by two different styles of music although the pairings are not what anyone is expecting. Nevertheless, I began to enjoy the artists' own rendition of each other's popular hits as well as a new song that is refreshing to anyone's ear. Still, Coke Studio Philippines is beginning to fulfill its purpose to unite generations of music lovers, young and old alike, with the universal language of music. Indeed, Coke Studio has taken our love for Filipino music to different tastes that we have never experienced before and you should enjoy every bit of it whether you watch one of its episodes or listen to their collaborations and covers.

Anyway, Coke Studio Philippines airs every Saturday night at 7:00 pm or after the PBA whichever comes first on TV5 and can be viewed at www.youtube.com/CokeStudioPH. It is hosted by Filipino music icons Buddy Zabala and Raymund Marasigan of the legendary Eraserheads fame who also serve as the producers for the participating artists, while Shinji Tanaka provides the engaging and electrifying sounds as the studio's music engineer.
