The
2017 Metro Manila Film Festival is on the verge of reaching the finish line,
and Filipino netizens continue to express their own rave sentiments about the festival's
official entries that they have watched and enjoyed since Christmas.
The
Revenger Squad and Ang Panday continue to spread their own brand of
entertainment to more Filipino movie buffs which is why these two must-watch
flicks remain as top choices until the end of the fest on the first Sunday of
January. On the other hand, the MMFF 2017's dark horses are not the ones to
give up easily as evidenced by not just the strong reception, but also by the
increasing number of available cinemas.
It
is usual for any dark horse in every edition of the MMFF not to be
underestimated by local movie buffs and it looks like Siargao, Deadma Walking
and Ang Larawan are no exception but beyond what we have expected from them. It
is no surprise that the dramatic musical film to reap a big number of awards in
its recently-concluded awards night, and it is obviously fair to say that the
recent reception after a storm is a statement that such concepts can still
capture any Filipino's heart in any way possible.
On the
last day of 2017, I checked Robinsons Movieworld to see if the entries shown since
Christmas are still intact but I was intrigued to see Siargao on the list
having the most number of screening times than Haunted Forest. Aside from what
I have explored and discovered in cinemas mostly consistent long lines of moviegoers,
I've learned that no movie in this year's edition of MMFF is a loser and all of
the entries are standing in their own right.
