With its 93rd season nearing its end, the National Collegiate Athletic
Association unveiled a special event which is slated to become one of its major
disciplines in the near future and recently staged a solidarity run for the benefit
of the Marawi war victims and they all happened recently over the weekend.
The special event I'm talking about is 3x3 basketball which took place at thw Kalentong campus gym of Jose Rizal University in Mandaluyong City where participants from eight of the ten NCAA member-schools have competed in two days of action-packed collegiate mayhem. Colegio de San Juan de Letran dominated the under-14 juniors division, while JRU would eventually take home the 3x3 crown in the under-18 division.
It is interesting to learn that the recently-concluded event is part of
NCAA's efforts in helping the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in
producing potential Filipino ballers as well as its grassroots development
program. It may be considered a demonstration sport in the next few seasons,
but it will not be long before it relegates itself to one of the league's major
draws in the coming years.
Meanwhile, NCAA successfully helmed a solidarity run at the Rajah
Sulayman Park in Baywalk, Manila prior to the final day of the league's 3x3
affair last January 28, 2018. More than 2,000 runners, young and old alike,
have took part in the event where proceeds will be used to help the Philippine
government in its efforts to rebuild the city of Marawi in Lanao del Sur which
was ravaged by war last year. Indeed, it was a weekend that everyone who has
been part of NCAA Season 93 will never forget.
