During the celebration of National Women's Month, the Film Development
Council of the Philippines (FDCP) officially launched CineMarya - a festival of
local short films centering on women in honor of the Filipino woman's
contributions to family and society.
In partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government
(DILG) and Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the festival aims to tell
stories of modern Filipino women rising above prejudice and struggles in today's
society through not only their beauty but their strength and passion as well. The festival is open to interested participants aged 18 to 30 years old
as well as first-time filmmakers who want to produce a 10 to 20-minute short
film that tackles women empowerment, different roles of women in society, and
awareness on diverse social issues on women and equality. The ten official
entries selected will be granted Php100,000 seed money each for CineMarya's
first year.

On the other hand, two among the official entries will be chosen to
participate in the upcoming FDCP Filmmaking Workshop Series - Planting Seeds and
Film Industry Conference which is slated to take place during the 2018 Pista ng
Pelikulang Pilipino. Furthermore, the ten finalists will have the chance to
undergo a two-day intensive filmmaking workshop to be held in a secluded area
in Rizal and helmed by multiple filmmakers, PWC representatives and others.
Each production team's director will serve as a fellow for the advocate program
which would help develop their skills in story development, editing and other
aspects of filmmaking to further promote women empowerment.
