intense-filled performances during the finale week of the popular nationwide
singing competition Tawag Ng Tanghalan, and it is no surprise that its final
showdown became a monster hit in both the small screens and even the online
world with Cebu's Janine Berdin being hailed as the grand winner of the
competition's second season.
The 16-year old high school student/cadet officer garnered the highest
combined average score of 96.11% which came from both the judges' scores and
audience votes and bested Ato Arman of Bukidnon (74.27%) and Steven Paysu of
California, USA (60.18%). Prior to the final showdown, the youngest among the
grand finalists was the first to move on to the said event after performing in
a week-long series of performances and considered by many Filipino netizens and
viewers as a favorite to win the competition with her performances becoming
viral and gaining millions of views on YouTube.
In the first round of the grand showdown which took place last June 2,
2018 at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City, Berdin showcased her own vocal prowess
with her own rendition of Sampaguita's "Nosi Balasi", which received
a standing ovation from the judges. Pop rock princess Yeng Constantino even
dubbed her as the new voice of OPM. In the second round, Berdin impressed the
audience and the judges again by singing a medley of three popular Filipino
songs sung by Bamboo namely "Tatsulok", "Noypi" and
"Hallelujah".
Berdin won an overwhelming sleuth of prizes including Php2 million in
cash tax-free, a house and lot from Camella, a talent management contract, lively
hood package, musical gadgets, premium television sets and a vacation package
as well as a trophy designed and crafted by rejoined Filipino visual artist

The grand finals, dubbed as "Tawag Ng Tanghalan: Ang Huling
Tapatan", would eventually win big in the hearts of Filipino viewers as it
scored a highly impressive national TV rating of 31% based on data from Kantar
Media. According to the said data, it is 11 points higher than It's Showtime's
average rating for the month of May and more than thrice the rating of its
rival programs. On the other hand, more than 100,000 watched the final showdown
online via live streaming on YouTube which was the highest among live events
and coverages streamed on ABS-CBN Entertainment's YouTube channel and that is
an interesting surprise. Its official hashtag #TNT2HulingTapatan was a top
trending topic on social media nationwide and worldwide and it was consistently
trending over the weekend. Furthermore, the audience votes for the final
showdown which were gathered via SMS and online were higher than last year's -
a literally strong way to end the second season of one of the flagship segments
of the number one daytime show in the Philippines today.
