The University of the Philippines are now bound for glory in the Philippine
collegiate basketball scene as they are slated to start their new chapter in
the 82nd season of the UAAP with strong support from the likes of 3M and NXLED,
surprising acquisitions of local collegiate sensations Ricci Rivero and Kobe
Paras, and an intriguing training camp outside the Philippines underway.
For years, the UP Fighting Maroons has been one of the most
underwhelming teams in the UAAP due to the struggles that has been transpired
in the previous seasons. Now, I think I would agree with several local hoop
fans and critics that things will be different for some of the nation's finest scholars
with the recent addition of Kobe Paras fresh from his collegiate basketball
career in the United States as one of the biggest and most interesting stories
so far leading to the opening of a new UAAP season coming this fall. I'm sure
that many collegiate hoopnuts are thinking about what they can expect from the Maroons
this year.

After seeing action in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup 2018 last June,
we thought that the Maroons are in for another underwhelming season. But their
road to glory is something that we can expect from them considering that they
are in to capture the UAAP men's basketball crown which they first won way back
in 1986 fresh from the EDSA People Power Revolution. Hopefully Kobe and Ricci
would boost the team's chances to make their own impact in the highly-anticipated
season and possibly shock the local hoops scene as well. By the way, for your
information, the Maroons who won the UAAP championship crown in '86 were led by
local basketball legend Benjie Paras who is Kobe's father so you may see the
possibilities for yourself.
