After a year of hiatus and dormancy, the Philippine Popular Music Festival known as PhilPop has
returned to the local scene with a new mission to introduce young and old
Filipino music lovers to a wide and diverse array of fresh sounds that would
surely delight and satisfy their listening buds. In fact, PhilPop Foundation
literally stays true to the event's new commitment with the official
introduction of 30 semifinalists coming from different parts of the country.
Throughout time, generations of Filipinos are getting used to listening
to songs made by people coming from Metro Manila and several parts of Luzon. On
the other hand, the music coming from the southern part of the country rarely
make its own scene which becomes a hard barrier for composers living across any
of these parts to break and move forward. The fifth edition of the highly-engaging
local musical event is set to break such barriers as some of its semifinalists
come from Visayas and Mindanao which is considered as an open opportunity for aspiring
composers and songwriters in all corners of our local shores.
While most of the competing songs are sung in Filipino, music lovers
will have the esteemed privilege to listen other songs in the native language
of where they are made. With that in mind, here is the official list of the 30
