Lo and behold!! The Sony PlayStation Classic (Image Source: Facebook/PlayStation Asia) |
Sony
Interactive Entertainment is looking to follow the success of Nintendo's NES
Mini and SNES Classic Edition with the surprising launch of something that is
definitely worthy of a real and legitimate Christmas gift for young and old gamers
around the world - the Sony PlayStation Classic. The console that we have loved
to enjoy during our childhood memories at the end of the 20th century and the beginning
of the new millennium makes its return to gaming stores around the world and it
may be available sooner than you think.
Released
in Japan in late 1994 and in other countries in 1995, the Sony PlayStation was
a gaming system that redefined the industry with its overwhelming lineup of
popular, renouned and genre-defining games that have captivated the hearts and
minds of gamers during its time as well as its own sleuth of innovations that
set the bar for what we have today. The console made an impact on its own at
the very end of its run by becoming the first in gaming history to reach the
US$100 million unit sales mark.
The
Sony PlayStation Classic will bear similarities to the original PlayStation console
in terms of design and bundled accessories but the system is slated to be 45%
smaller than the original which should come as no surprise for nostalgic gamers
who have learned of this. The only thing that young and old fans of the
original PlayStation should worry about is that the console will come with a
standard controller without the infamous dual analog sticks on board but I
don't think that would be a problem.
Just
like the returning retro systems before, the PlayStation Classic will come with
20 of the best and finest games that have defined the system over the years.
Coinciding with the launch of the PlayStation Classic, Sony has eventually
announced the first five games that will be on the system, namely: Final
Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Jumping Flash, Wild Arms and Ridge Racer Type 4. Though
you may have your own speculations on which do you think will make it to the PS
Classic, I best recommend you to stay updated for further announcements from
Sony regarding the other 15 games that could surely satisfy your retro gaming
pleasure.
Anyway,
the Sony PlayStation Classic will be available in gaming stores worldwide
starting the 3rd of December which happens to be the 24th anniversary of the
exact date when the original PlayStation was released. According to Yugatech,
the system is set to be priced at Php6,190. Stay trubed to find out more about
the Sony PlayStation Classic before you consider it as your own holiday gift
this year.
