The
8th of December was an ecstatic and momentous occasion in one part of the Batangas
provincial capitol as sports buffs and spectators were able to witness hard-hitting
and action-packed volleyball action inside the Batangas City Sports Coliseum
for the Finals of the Premier Volleyball League's season-ending Open Conference.
In fact, it was the perfect venue to stage an intriguing battle between the Creamline
Cool Smashers and the Ateneo-Motolite Lady Eagles in the best-of-three series
thriller for the championship crown.
In the
end, however, the Game 2 of this intriguing finals showdown would happen to be
a literal stalemate as the Cool Smashers were able to overwhelm the Lady Eagles
in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15 and eventually sweep the
series to become the Open Conference champions. Well, it would be obvious for
any PVL fan to expect such outcome since the Smashers were led by Conference
MVP Alyssa Valdez, Finals MVP Jia Morado and Michelle Gumabao among other outstanding
volleybelles.
On
the other hand, we should never forget to praise the Ateneo-Motolite Lady
Eagles for their "never say die" fighting spirit against a tough competition
like Creamline. If you haven't read one of my previous articles on my online
blog, you should know that the Lady Eagles were the underdogs in the PVL Open
Conference Finals after defeating the BanKo Perlas Spikers in a do-or-die
thriller a week prior considering that they were inspired by the #AtinTo
battlecry of the UP Fighting Maroons. Speaking of the Perlas Spikers, they have
managed to overcome their loss in an overwhelming thriller and were able to
satisfy with their third place finish.
