ON THE RADAR, TECHNOLOGY | January 23, 2019
Alcatel's new smartphones have entered the Philippine market late last year and now available in online and offline stores across the country. |
It
was during the Christmas season when Alcatel Mobile Philippines announced its
unprecedented official return on social media to the surprise of local tech
critics and enthusiasts. Upon its return, Alcatel has eventually introduced six
new mobile devices that cater to the digital lifestyle needs of every modern
Filipino consumer including the 5V, 5 and its new feature phone that is essentially
made for senior citizens and those who are still longing for one. Though its return
was warmly welcomed by the market, many are curious to know why Alcatel was
dormant over the past few years following the release of its Flash line.
Their
curiosity was literally answered when Alcatel Mobile Philippines' new headhoncho Rudolph Santos spoke to renouned Philippine tech blog Unbox.ph and learning
from the interview makes much sense on why one of the most active international
brands was inactive in the local smartphone market up until late 2018. It just
turned out that Alcatel and its mother company TCL have undergone a corporate rehabilitation
in order to keep themselves intact in the global market. This surprising move has
pushed the mobile brand not to make waves in the 2018 Mobile World Congress.
Knowing
that it needs to be quick and firm in the highly competitive market, Alcatel
Philippines looks to follow the likes of Honor and Xiaomi for its impending
return and hopefully assures its enduring success in the long run. The result is
found in one of my previous articles which you can read here. By the way,
through Unbox.ph's interview with Santos, I've just found out that the Alcatel Flash
series is officially dead. Well, I assume that will happen since the line was
not as successful as its previous line of smartphones. Let's just pray for
Alcatel Mobile Philippines' highly-intriguing return to the local smartphone
market.
