After two phenomenal seasons, the sports arm of the Philippines' premiere media and entertainment company ABS-CBN Sports and eight-division world boxing champion Senator Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao have officially forged a new partnership deal for the third season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) which starts on June 12, 2019.

The newly strengthened agreement was made possible last May 30th by Pacquiao, ABS-CBN Sports LOB lead March Ventosa, ABS-CBN Sports head Dino Laurena, MPBL president Zaldy Realubit and league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes where the exciting thrills and action from the league will be brought to a wider audience. In fact, MPBL's sleuth of action-packed and passion-fueled games will be shown not only on S+A and S+A HD but also on LIGA and LIGA HD for pay TV audiences and The Filipino Channel (TFC) for overseas viewers. Matches will also be shown online via live streaming on iWant Sports in the Philippines and TFC.tv outside the country.

In the past two years, many Filipino basketball fans and sports enthusiasts have witnessed the meteoric rise of what is known as the "Liga ng Bayan" with teams representing Filipino provinces, cities and towns featuring homegrown and undiscovered talents from different parts of the country. Its home and away format has been a hit among hoopnuts and spectators as they fill coliseums and stadiums to support their home team as well as their favorite athletes. From only ten teams, the MPBL expanded its roster of participating teams to 26 and continues to draw interest from the private sector and topnotch talent from the collegiate and professional ranks making the league more competitive than ever.

The third season of the MPBL, dubbed as the Lakan Cup, will have 30 teams competing for the coveted crown including newcomers Nueva Ecija, Bicol and Mindoro from Luzon, Iloilo from Visayas and Sarangani from Mindanao. Witness the grand return of the country's most exciting basketball league on the celebration of Philippine Independence Day as the 2019-2020 MPBL Lakan Cup begins on June 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena live and exclusive on S+A, S+A HD, LIGA and LIGA HD on Skycable, TFC, iWant Sports and TFC.tv.
