The premiere media and entertainment company in the Philippines also dominated this year's roster of awardees with 31 awards for its programs and personalities as well as DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) and Metro Channel. The country's longest-running Sunday musical variety show ASAP Natin 'To was hailed as Best Variety Show while "Ipaglaban Mo" won the Jury Award for Television Crime Anthology. Current affairs program Pareng Partners received the award for Best Communication Program Development while the weekly entrepreneurial show "My Puhunan" won the Jury Award for Sustainable Development in Entrepreneurship.
"Ngayon at Kailanman" star Iza Calzado, "Halik" stars Jericho Rosales and Daisy CariƱo and Edu Manzano of FPJ's Ang Probinsyano were named Best Actress In A Drama Series, Best Actor In A Drama Series, Best Supporting Actress In A TV Series and Best Supporting Actor In A TV Series respectively. The "Duyan" episode of Asia's longest-running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) also earned awards for its stars with Allen Dizon and Meryll Soriano winning Best Single Performance By An Actor and Best Single Performance By An Actress respectively while Tony Labrusca was the recipient of the Gawad Elenita Navor Hermoso Para Sa Natatanging Artista Ng Bagong Henerasyon.
On the other hand, ABS-CBN's lifestyle cable channel Metro has been added to the Kapamilya network's sleu of awards for its programs that celebrate Filipino culture and style. Local travel-cuisine shows Show Me The Market, Chasing Flavors and FoodPrints each won a Jury Award for Cultural Development and Sustainability. Women of Style, a local lifestyle program which puts the spotlight on accomplished Filipino award, won the Jury Award for Gender and Development while home and interiors show Metro Home received the Jury Award for Sustainable Design and Innovation.
Perhaps the biggest winner among ABS-CBN's roster of this year's Gawad Tanglaw awardees is none other than the network's all-English news channel ANC which is considered as the gold standard for Philippine news. The first of its kind in the Philippines won a total of 13 awards including the coveted Best TV Station Award as well as Best Business Program for The Boss and On The Money, Best Public Affairs Program for Beyond Politics and Karen Davila of Headstart as Best Female TV Anchor among others. DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, the leading AM radio station in Mega Manila, is not one to be left behind as it picked up an award for "Usapang De Campanilla" which won Best Radio Public Service Program.
The Gawad Tanglaw, which is also known as the Gawad Tagapuring Mga Akademisyan Ng Aninong Gumagalaw, is an award-giving body that honors aims to honor exemplary work in television and radio. Composing the award's jury are film critics, scholars, historians and professors of humanities from different universities across the country.
