Crash Team Racing on PS1
Remembering a gaming memory from my childhood years!! (Image Source: Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons)
Twenty years ago, Sony Computer Entertainment America and Naughty Dog have released a racing game featuring characters, items and environments from one of the most loved franchises during the Sony PlayStation years and I never thought that it will be one of the most memorable racing games throughout the said period that can be at par with Nintendo's Mario Kart which started the kart racing franchise. Around the same period, it happened to be one of my favorite PlayStation games ever and eventually the most enjoyable one among others.

I remembered all too well when I looked at my neighbors playing CTR against each other until I began playing it for the first time on my own PlayStation console and it happened when I was in the intermediate period of my elementary years. I took time enjoying the single-player adventure and arcade modes as my usually preferred choice, the one and only Crash Bandicoot, and ended up finishing it with most of the characters unlocked and without me noticing but that's just bland to me. Still, it was one unforgettable memory during my childhood and I will always cherish CTR as one of the rarely few PlayStation games that I have finished multiple times alongside MegaMan 8, Castlevania Chronicles, Pacman World and Samurai Shodown: Warriors' Rage.

Fast forward to late 2018, I was a bit overwhelmed and surprised when I learned about the return of Crash Team Racing at The Game Awards which brought me back memories of the old. I was pretty ecstatic about Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled for a while which I thought it will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 until it was officially released in the market for PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch last June 16th. Many gaming critics and reviewers have mixed reactions about the game as evidenced by EDGE Magazine's score of 6. Nevertheless, it is pretty overwhelming to see Crash Team Racing makes its fresh return for a new generation of gamers to enjoy and indulge.

Judging from what I have read from gaming and tech sites, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled bears the same premise of the original game but it is refreshed, remodeled and renewed for a next generation system. With that much said, I don't know if any local gaming critic or CTR fan can think of this as a remastered version of the game or not. Well, I guess the best thing I know about Nitro Fueled despite the mixed reception is that it has a slate of new characters and a whole sleuth of new courses coming from Crash Nitro Kart. With that in mind, it makes me feel hungry to wish that there is a PS4 rental somewhere around the city just to relive playing Crash Team Racing all over again.
