A wide look at Nintendo's showcase inside E3 2019 (Image Source: HypeBeast) |
The recently concluded 2019 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo,
which is known as E3, has delivered a showcase of not just what is heading
towards the gaming world in the coming months and the foreseeable future but
also the outlook of the gaming industry as a whole especially the world of
professional gaming which continues to grow tremendously. Aside from upcoming
video games, there are times when those who have been at E3 or browsed the Web
for the latest find things amuse them during the three-day global affair.
Yet it did and it was more than just what I thought or maybe the other
way around usually. There are so many things within the gaming world that are
starting to gain interest and traction from gaming communities and even the
online world such as an unexpected surprise of elements that literally shocked
you in awe or an unknown who quickly became the new talk of the town because of
one's good vibes that can charm even the strongest keyboard warriors. And they
are all found in the world's largest major video game convention. With that in
mind, here are my top five that have surprised and charmed spectators, audiences
and netizens alike and they all have involvement in some of the finest games to
become available soon in the global market.
1. John Wick Arrives In
Cyberpunk
Award-winning veteran Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has been active in the
pop culture scene lately - from his return to the action genre as John Wick in John
Wick 3 to being the voice of a fork that is made like a toy in Toy Story 4.
Now, it seems that Keanu is making his debut in the world of video games as his
John Wick-esque image and voice has been immortalized in the futuristic shooter
Cyberpunk 2077. And its first look shown at E3 will tell you more about it.
2. Her Name Is Ikumi
Nakamura
For the online world, perhaps the best moment of Bethesda Software's E3
2019 presentation is the introduction of its own futuristic action game Ghostwire
Tokyo by Tango Gameworks creative director Ikumi Nakamura who happens to be the
reason why netizens said so. Nakamura's presentation of the game was literally
a breath of fresh air because of her resilient passion in speaking about the game
in English and her sleuth of surprisingly unexpected poses that charmed those
who have watched it. Heck, I bet that you can expect more from Shinji Mikami's
disciple in the near future.
3. Banjo And Kazooie Return
To The Nintendo Universe
Nintendo announced the next series of DLC characters for Super Smash Brothers
Ultimate which is now the best-selling fighting game of all time with more 13
to 14 million copies sold worldwide and among these to the surprise of many are
the tandem of Banjo and Kazooie. As soon as the announcement was made, many are
starting to like them and feel happy for the duo to return to Nintendo consoles
as fighters. They should thank Xbox's Phil Spencer for what is regarded as a wonderfully
trubitastic case of diversity in the gaming industry.
4. Nintendo eSports Kicked
Off The Affair
What surprised me at last year's E3 is the staging of two short but
highly enjoyable tournaments - the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2018 and the
Super Smash Brothers Invitational 2018 prior to the release of Smash Ultimate months
later. Now, Nintendo is at it again kicking off E3 2019 with three exciting tournaments
in one day prior to the start of the convention - the Super Mario Maker 2
Invitational, Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019 and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
World Championship 2019 3v3. To be honest, this is the best thing about E3 in
my case. Just watch these three in full on Nintendo's official YouTube channel.
5. The Division Is Coming To
Netflix
Ubisoft's E3 2019 showcase was a little bit bland than usual but its
slate of upcoming games will keep you banking on and rolling in since some of
them are partly developed in the Philippines. But outside the showcase came a
very intriguing announcement that the European video game publisher and developer
is bringing one of its well-loved franchises to Netflix and that would be The Division
starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Here's what you need to know about the Netflix adaptation.
These are just some of the best things that I've talked about in the
introduction you've read above and they have literally put the pop culture scene
on fire. In any case, I should talk about my own Best of E3 2019 list that have
gained my interest after a bit of researching and tweeting so stay trubed.
